I wish Relay would allow region recording

TechSmith is a great company because it responds to the needs of its users. With that in mind, I would like to ask for a feature in Camtasia Relay. Why can't Relay offer the option to define the capture area as in Jing and Studio and not be forced to capture the entire screen? By the way I love all the new features of Studio, especially the CROP tool.
Thank you and keep up the great work.

Thanks for the request Vinny.  We have had this request before and have considered it on numerous occasions.  We're trying to figure out how to do it in a way that
1. It still keeps the ease-of-use of the Relay recorder
2. It works with most (if not all) of the publishing destinations Relay uses.

Technical Considerations
Region recording allows for a lot of different aspect-ratios.  This is the ratio of the horizontal resolution to the vertical resolution.  Region recording could allow someone to create a really tall video that was very skinny.  Most of the time that will result in a lousy viewing experience for the audience, and in some cases it might even not work for certain media locations.  Unlike in Studio where the author can edit the video again and again to make sure it looks right on the media server, we want to get it right the first-time in Relay, so allowing different aspect ratios means we have to make sure it works in various different systems.  In the graphic below, the "Atypical Video" sizes would have to work in all of our outputs, and that requires a lot of additional testing.

Bottom Line
We would like to incorporate this feature into the product at some point but there are some things we need to figure out first so that it works reliably and results in a good viewing experience.  I encourage other users to vote this as a "Me Too" if it is of interest to you.  I also encourage you to provide any additional context you feel would be relevant.

Note
I renamed this thread to reference "Region Recording", because cropping refers to a different (although related) feature of Camtasia Studio.
