MacOS 10.14 Mojave - Crashes Snagit 2018

Since upgrading to MacOS 10.14.Mojave (beta 1), my Snagit has been crashing upon opening the app.  Wondering if there is a beta version of Snagit that would be more compatible with Mojave.

Thanks for the report!! No beta version that supports Mojave just yet. We will investigate soon. We actually have some developers out at WWDC right now and they've been logging bugs that we've been seeing. We'll take a look in earnest once everyone is back.

While we don't officially support pre-release versions of macOS, we try and stay on top of beta releases as best we can. After investigating the bugs, we'll determine if it's something that Apple accidentally broke (and they'll fix in a subsequent beta) or if it's a more permanent change that we will need to take into account and get fixes out as soon as we can.

Having the same issue with Snagit 4.1.9.
Any thoughts if fixes will be issued for that version? or will we need to upgrade?

Me too - honestly, Mojave's new screen capture software reduces the usefulness of SnagIt. Especially considering it currently does not function (in 10.14 Beta).

Getting access to SnagIt betas that we could test would be incredibly useful.

FYI to anyone this may effect... Updating to Beta3 broke snagit again.  Uninstalling and reinstalling fixed it for me and all my settings and images are still here.  We should not really complain much IMO because we are running Beta OS.  Things break.  As a fellow dev I really appreciate techsmiths fast and honest response to address the "Beta" issues.  To me that is the sign of a good company I happily will pay to use products I love.

One side note out of scope.  The feature may already exist and I just don't know where it is but one thing I would LOVE is a "Dark Theme"

Found it lol

Snagit 2018 is crashing hard on macOS Mojave Public Beta, and fails to launch. Sent multiple reports to Apple.

We have an update currently scheduled for Thursday that will fix the crash on launch issue you all are seeing.

That update will still have some trouble with recording video with the new audio permissions. But we'll fix that as the beta stabilizes!

Thanks Chris! Any thoughts/word on if/when Snagit 4.1.x will get an update as well? (Realizing you are probably prioritizing the latest version which is understandable)

You can go to: https://download.techsmith.com/snagitmac/enu/1821/snagit.dmg

For 4.x, we'll be releasing a 4.1.10 version next month hopefully! Not sure on the exact date, need to spin up our build servers for 4.x again and then do some testing against the future beta builds.

Thanks!

Hi Chris,
Is there a newer beta build that 1821 yet that might fix the hanging issues when taking a screen grab of Safari in MacOS 10.14 at all?

I am on 10.14 Beta 6 (18A353d) but still experiencing the same issue since Beta 1.

Again, fully aware it is BETA software, but just checking to see if you have a newer build just on the off chance ;-)

Cheers

Apologies on the late reply, missed a notification apparently, and just saw this after re-reading comments.

We should have something out soon. I'll contact you about testing it out. :)

The update to 2018 is live! Snagit will now run on 10.14 Mojave.

Most of you here won't be able to check for updates as pointed out by piet.nel:

Here is the link: https://download.techsmith.com/snagitmac/enu/1821/snagit.dmg

Like I mentioned before, this update will still have some trouble with recording video with the new audio permissions. But we'll fix that as the beta stabilizes!

And for 4.x, we'll be releasing a 4.1.10 version next month hopefully! Not sure on the exact date, need to spin up our build servers for 4.x again and then do some testing against the future beta builds.

OK Mojave Beta 7 is out - I was hoping that Snag-It would finally work to capture Safari Windows -- Nope.  Locks my 2018 MacBook Pro 15" hard - need to force reboot it.

Steps to reproduce:
Launch Snagit (Using beta build:  Version 2018.2.1 (90446)
Open Safari
HighLight Safari web page to capture
Press the capture button
Get the spinning beachball of death.

WOuld love to beta test and fixes you may have for this.... Daily long-time user of Snag-It, and we are a month out from final release of Mojave.

Tech Smith - I know you have bytes that will fix this :). Pretty Please drop us another beta to test?

Hi,

Sorry about this! We are working on an update, but it's not quite ready yet. One possible workaround that you can do is if you have multiple spaces/desktops set up, when the screen freezes you can sometimes swipe over to another space. This will let the new in 10.14 Safari permissions dialog show up. Once you accept (or deny if you choose) then it should no longer freeze when you capture. I hope this helps in the mean time, but we'll try to get our update out as soon as we can!

worked for me too, the permissions dialog is there, it's just showing up underneath/behind the safari window instead of ontop of it.  If I were a betting man I'd say that's a MacOS issue, not a SnagIt one, however perhaps the SnagIt Installer could ask for this permission earlier during the install instead of at first use to ensure it doesn't happen.

Hi Folks,

We have a 2018.2.2 update that just went live that should address the issues with Chrome, Safari, and scrolling capture on macOS 10.14. Note that webcam and microphone recording is not working correctly yet, that was taking a little longer so we'll get those fixes out in an upcoming update. Thanks for your patience.

Hi Luke et al. I hope I'm not highjackig the thread, but I have snaggit Version 2018.2.3 (91457) from the app store and Mojave.  Scrolling capture works on Safari, but not video capture on any app.  It says "video capture failed / an unknown error occured".

Any ideas?

Maybe I'm in the wrong discussion but, Jing is crashing on my Mac now. I'm using the new Mojave 10.14.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Jing but it still crashes when recording a video. I did manage a screen shot.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

That will occasionally happen (although upgrades are always 50% off), but Snagit 2018 for example supports 10.11 through 10.14 and will likely support 10.15 when it comes out.

Hi,

Unfortunately Snagit 3 is not supported on 10.14, so you'll have to upgrade to the latest version https://www.techsmith.com/snagit-upgrade.html
