Make Camtasia auto select external Microphone on Mac

When I plug in my Microphone I have to manually tell Camtasia to use my external microphone instead of the internal Mac one. This is really annoying because many times I forgot do recordings only to discover I just wasted a bunch of time because Camtasia doesn't auto select a plugged in Microphone or listen to what I have currently selected as my input audio source on Mac. Is there a way to get Camtasia to do this?

Agreed. It would remove another step. If anything there ought to be a “choice” to use previous set-up.

Some of us have been wrestling with PC & Mac audio source switching for 20+ years. From this perspective, under NO circumstances do I want any program, any hardware or any software making input or output choices for me. I'm sure others with long experience will agree. It's bad enough today when you have to quit multiple apps and/or reboot to get some well-meaning app to release or listen to a port. I don't want any "smart" features outsmarting me.

The choice to use previous set-up sounds benign, but I'd like to see a very long, very wide beta test on that feature to ensure it does not interfere with any other options. Conflicts in this area are sneaky.

Alternatively, if it was set up to detect when there was more than one source available, it could just ask you to select, when you record, and you could have a tick box to always use that source when available, so it didn't need to ask you every time. That way the feature is there for those that want it, and avoidable for those that don't, but still easier than having to find a menu and tell it beforehand.
