making a vertical video

I would like to create a 540x720 vertical video. I mirror a tablet onto a laptop and use Camtasia 9.0.5 to create a video. BUT . . . I would like to create a vertical-type video to play back on mobile devices (it's training about a mobile app).

I go into preferences and set the canvas to 540x720 and when I record, I capture 540x720. Then in share custom production, I set the size to 540x720 (and have tried both selecting keep aspect ratio and unselecting it).

However, the output squishes the video and places bars on the side. The output video itself does have the dimensions of 540x720 when its properties are looked at but the video is squished inside of that.

Any ideas?  Thanks!

Ah ha, go to File > project settings and ALSO change the size there!  I would have thought that canvas size alone would have done it.

This continues to work well and to sum it up for anyone looking:

How to set the Camtasia canvas to output a "portait" video—that is, a video that is taller than it is wide.

Why?

To create video that will play back in a "larger" viewable size on a phone or tablet held in portrait fashion.

We have an app that only works in a portrait orientation and we want our Help content, and videos, to be as usable/viewable as possible.

Filming  in a landscape manner such as 4:3 or 16:9 results in a minuscule-sized video.

For our purposes, I film at 450 wide by 720 tall.

Edit > Preferences... > Canvas
     Canvas Dimension: Custom
     Width 450
     Height 720
     OK

File > Project Settings...
     Canvas Dimension: Custom
     Width 450
     Height 720
     Apply

Record
     Select area
          Custom & Dimension 450/720
