March 2017 Feature Request Round-Up

Hello TechSmith Community! It's that time of month again, the 15th is finally here and that means that it is time for the monthly Feature Request Round-Up! To reiterate, as I mentioned a number of weeks ago in a post about New Community Processes, on the 15th of each month I will be gathering the last 30 days’ worth of Feature Requests and placing them in a single post.

I would like to point out that each and every feature request is reviewed, with those that have the most votes and highest community interaction are more likely to be responded to by the Product Development team (note that this does not mean that the feature will absolutely be included in a future update), so make sure you are out there championing your feature request both here on the TechSmith community forums and within in your own social and professional circles. Without further ado, here are the Feature Requests from February 15, 2017 through March 15, 2017, make sure you head to their original threads and click the "Vote" button for it to count!Note too that I will be updating this thread over the course of the next few weeks with vote counts.

I hope the fact that there's no item listed for Camtasia about adding an option for a light grey theme (just like in Snagit!) means that it's imminent! ;)

Only ONE item for Camtasia Mac?

I know there have been many suggestions, including the issues of

 - stereo recording from an external sound source
 - proper hi-res webcam recording

Hi Bruce!

I too had to do a double-take at that one, though it is not hard to believe, Camtasia for Mac is one of the smallest categories on the forums. Note though, that there are a few Camtasia (Windows) threads that are for both platforms, though there is no good way (yet) to display that.

As for the features you mention; when I pull these records I pull from the 15th to the 15th and it doesn't appear that either of those requests are a part of the threads created in that timeframe, though I am human and prone to making a mistake. Do you have links to those feature requests that were created between February 15, 2017 and March 15, 2017? I'd be happy to include them here if they were submitted in that timeframe.

There seems to be a major flaw in the process.  In only picking the 'highlight' requests from the last 30 days, any great idea that was recorded earlier falls off the radar.

For MONTHS people have been complaining about the broken UI / UX in SnagIt 13.  And none of those requests have been dealt with yet.  Instead, more features are getting added on top of a crappy foundation.  Even simple things like removing the stupid black pseudo border that gets added to every capture has still not made it, yet we are asked to think about another way of handling, for example, how to zoom.  I mean no disrespect to the people raising these great ideas but until TechSmith addresses the MAJOR issues there's **** all point fiddling with the minor ones, and a lot a valuable development resource is lost.

I have just about had it with SnagIt.

Hi Paul and thanks for the feedback;

The purpose for the 30-day process is to ensure velocity and desire; there are many cases where a handful of users will want an obscure feature, but if in the following month it does not have staying power to remain a popular request, it is easy to weed out fads and help reduce featurecreep / bloating the software.

There are indeed some users concerned with changes in Snagit's UI, and one thing that I would like to point out is that bugs (including usability bugs) should be reported appropriately (per our front page on the forums, bug reports need to be placed with Technical Support), and not submitted as a feature request. If what it is that users are suggesting are feature requests, then submitting them through the feature request process, and communicating needs/desires clearly and concisely, is required. One thing I would like to note is that desktop application development does not have an immediate turnaround time as development takes time; from research to development to testing to implementation to rolling out an update, it could take weeks, months, or even years for content to be pushed. Our primary concern with the feature requests process is to hear what our community of users want when it comes to features, then (hopefully) adjust expectations for functionality within Snagit.

I am happy to go through and set up a phone call with you with a few of us here at TechSmith if you'd like so you can discuss some of the concerns that we might have (note, an NDA may be required for the conversation). Would you mind if I emailed you directly to possibly set something up?

Hi!

I've been using Camtasia since V1 Windows and now use both Win and Mac. For both, it would be super cool to have a 1.25x to say 2x playback of the timeline ... with sound! This is super useful for editing!

I'd even pay 400 bucks for 60FPS/showing keystrokes/light motion blur just like ScreenFlow on OSX. But no, they don't want the money, gotta stay on OSX then. Implement freaking 60FPS recordings/export, my god, this company really wants to be stuck in the year 2005.

My biggest, fondest wish would be a "Reverse Image Search" in any version of Snagit. I know, this is not on the list. But now  factchecking is sexy, this Snagit Output would be great. Off topic? OK, let me go back to the list. Snagit (Mac) : pixelate !
