Mask visual effect for Camtasia 9 (PC)

I currently use Camtasia extensively for work, and predominately record/edit on a Mac, however we're starting to pick up contractors that work on PC as well, and after playing around with Camtasia for PC, I noticed that the "Mask" effect that can be found in the Visual Effects bin on Camtasia for Mac isn't there for PC. This is an incredibly powerful tool for our workflow and it's surprising it's only included on the Mac version! Perhaps I'm missing it, or it's in a different place, but for the life of me I can't seem to find it!

I am also having the same problem and not having this feature limits my ability to do a lot of things.  Is there a work around for the PC?

the validity of your idea notwithstanding ...

I do not use the Mac version, but on Windows you can make your own custom mask, and save as an asset in the Library, using this method ...

Yeah, that's definitely an option, and a technique that I actually used on Mac before discovering the Mask effect. IMO, though, the mask effect on Mac is way easier to use and minimizes the steps needed to create a custom mask. Also, since it's applied to a single clip, any animations applied to that clip also get applied to the mask as well. I've found it to be incredibly handy.

Very happy to have found it. I was curious about the effect myself, did some googling and found the page and noticed there was supposed to be a video there but it was missing. I contacted TechSmith and reported it. Many huge thanks to TechSmith for promptly fixing it!

Dang I hate when they delete the blog posts! Why can't they just remain? Or perhaps maintain an archive?

Are they short on disk space or something?

The hyperlinks in this thread seem to point to nowhere (I'm getting a 404 when I click each of the links, sample or blog).

Is this intended?

Nice solution! Good thought!

Though, the suggested workaround requires pre-rendering which becomes troublesome when applying changes to the mask or masked footage.

I don't know why the video for MAC masking is gone.
But here's that video if your interested in seeing it.

Square and Oval masks are alright.I'd prefer to see a more robust masking tool that allows for creating custom shapes.

I agree this needs to be in the Windows Version just as easy as in the macOS one. It would make creating screencasts alot faster.

Why is the "mask" feature not on the PC? It just seems illogical to me and I'm a big fan of TechSmith's products..

It's incredibly frustrating and annoying to find that Camtasia has not added the "masking" feature found in its MAC version to their PC version. Camtasia, you are being incredibly tone-deaf and, might I say, arrogant to be completely ignoring this request from so many users out there. Just do a quick google on the net and you will find that people need and want this feature. Here's some unpaid advice: It will make you more money if you add this feature.

It is not nearly the same as a proper mask feature, but the PC version *does* have a crop feature which was good enough for what I was trying to do.

Chiming in to cast another vote for a bona fide video masking feature for Camtasia on PCs.
Thanks for listening!
