Mask with custom shape?

Is there a less convoluted way to mask a video with a (custom) shape than what kayakman described here 9 months ago?

I have an iPhone screen recording that I want to mask with a rounded rectangle PNG.

If there isn't, can we add this functionality please?

Camtasia for MAC has a masking feature built in.

These a English language version of this video somewhere? I don't use MAC so I can't provide any details.
I wish they would add it to windows.

This video should give you a hint at workflow.

Joe, I saw that masking option but originally thought you were only limited to a circle; didn't realize there was a rectangle as well.  And whaddya know... there's an option to round the rectangle corners, so this gets me to where I need.  Thanks!

Now running into two problems:

  1. The part outside the mask exports as black rather than transparent. Tried this both with exporting mp4 and gif.
  2. Having trouble snapping the mask to the canvas edge.  Don't see anything to assist with this in right-click menu or properties. Any ideas?

I've don't have a Mac so I have no experience with the feature.
Someone else will probably help you soon.
