Masking for Camtasia Studio 8

Hi-
I have been using Camtasia Studio 8 for a while now, and it exceeds most other video editors in many categories. However, one thing the software is lacking is a masking feature. I see that you have already made this available in the Mac version of Camtasia. Please make this feature available to Windows users such as myself!

Thanks!

Hi Zoe! I'm glad that you're liking Camtasia. When you say masking, do you mean like the crop feature? http://www.techsmith.com/tutorial-camtasia-8-crop-mode.html

Dear Camtasia, Just add the option for the callout to persist and Not fade. You already have shape, size and color but you force a fade. A callout can be place over the necessary screen area and colored to be solid without text. It would work perfect for me but the forced fade is killing me.

OK I just found that you can stretch the callout from the timeline. It works Great!

The original post is from 2 years ago.  When will Techsmith add the masking feature to Camtasia for PC?  The current crop tool is just this outdated, square/rectangle option.  Thanks!

Hi Michelle,

I'm sorry, but I don't know if or when a masking feature will ever come to Camtasia Studio. The duration of the original request has no bearing at all on if this feature will ever be developed. And yes, the crop is just that - not a mask for creating special effects.

But, can you explain a bit about what kind of look you are wanting to create?
Perhaps there is a simple and/or creative solution we can come up with that will help you out.
I know we have a tutorial on how to create masks in Snagit and use them in Camtasia to get the custom look you want.
There are many variations you could employ using this technique:

Anyway, I would like to hear more about your project and what you need to achieve.

Thanks!
Kelly

We mean something like this: http://www2.pcmag.com/media/images/235200-vegas-mask.jpg?thumb=y

A crop tool that doesn't do only square and rectangle stuff.
