Massive Batch Downloading

I love Screencast, but sometimes I worry about the site or company suddenly disappearing with nearly 10 years of my files with it. Sometimes I need to go back and see what I was doing at what time of the year... I really need a bulk download option.

Agreed. It's nice to have a local backup - and this way I won't keep hitting my storage limit for old stuff that isn't used but maybe one day I'll need!

Oh how I wish there were a way to do a batch download of my files! At the end of the semester, I would like to be able to remove old Relay recordings to make way for the next semester's recordings. Please, oh, please give me a way to zip up my files. Thank you!

Download a folder-
I need to be able to download a whole folder at once. It's too cumbersome to go to each file (50+) in the folder and download individually. A folder download option- at the very least for the owner, though option to enable other specific users to do the same would be great- would allow content to be zipped and downloaded more efficiently.

We are unable to support self-serve mass downloads of content on the current platform. Because of the large size of videos, this would be an unusual feature for any online video platforms, and since we store the original quality video file it’s especially difficult. We will, on a best effort basis, manually mass download content to Pro customers only.  We are unable to offer this service to our many millions of free users.

You don’t say if you are a free or paid user. If a paid user, then you shouldn’t worry. If you are a free user and absolutely wouldn’t consider going pro in the future, then we do not recommend the use of SC for long term archival of content. Our EULA states that inactive content for free users is subject to deletion, so it’s not a good fit for the use case you described (again if you are a Free user). There are other solutions like Google Drive or Dropbox that would be better for long term content storage and are mostly free.

If you are limited by the technology, perhaps you could AT LEAST improve the UX. It takes 4-5 clicks per file to download multiple files. That's bananas.
The 4-5 current steps:
  1. select file
  2. click download icon
  3. confirm download (wtf?)
  4. conifirm DL location
  5. unclick to free up function for next file selection

Some options:
  1. DO NOT CONFIRM DL with a click. Because OMG. -- removes click
  2. Add a modal "would you like to download all files to the same destination?" yes -- removes click
  3. Add "download" action within in the image info section ie near the checkbox -- removes click
  4. auto un-click downloaded file and add indicator that it has been downloaded -- removes click
Even if you can't address the limitations of the platform tech, you CAN make the experience less frustrating and more efficient for your users.

I'll speak with a designer about your suggestions. At the very least, it does seem like the confirmation is really superfluous, agreed.

What browser are you using? On Chrome (on both Mac and Windows), step 4 doesn't happen. Just goes to your Downloads folder. So that might be a quick way to incrementally speed up the process in the short term.

We'll definitely chat more about options 1, 3, and 4.

Thank you!

Thanks for considering the suggestions. (I'm a Director of UX/UI so delivering critique is hard-wired into my brain.)

Also, I'm using Chrome on Windows 10. So perhaps you have a bug if #4 isn't supposed to be happening to me.

Merideth,

Today (3/4/2019) we updated the download workflow to allow you to skip the verification dialog for subsequent downloads and also reduce the number of clicks to be able to download media.

The download button is now shown when hovering over the media's thumbnail when on the tile view, or found in the gear menu when on the details view.

Please let us know if this was an improvement!

I received an email saying my content will be deleted. I don't see an option to download all my content. Where can I find this? It only lets me download one by one. Thanks.

The OP's exact fears have been realized: Techsmith just announced they'll be starting to delete old content...but they've provided no way to get your existing content off of their servers, even in the interim between the announcement and the change.  Sigh.

Reading the response to this question about pro users being able to mass download ("We will, on a best effort basis, manually mass download content to Pro customers only."), I upgraded to a pro subscription.  However I am unable to see an option to do this.  Please enlighten me.

We will mass download content manually at TechSmith as a service. This is intended for Pro customers as stated above.   Contact tech support to make the request.  https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

For anyone else reading this: I signed up for a paid account and asked them to do this export.  I was told they would do it for me eventually, but that it would likely take "a while," and they refused to give even a general idea of a time frame (i.e. I asked if it would likely take days? weeks? months? The response: "I do not have a time frame on how long that would take.")

So...yeah. First experience with the paid service... :P

I just wanted to provide a quick follow-up to this post, and let the community know that while we don't currently promise a specific delivery date for this download process (since there are a handful of variables that can come into play, such as how much content there is in the account), we usually have these requests resolved in about 2-3 business days.

This includes Metal450's request, which was resolved in three business days.

For those looking to request the mass download of these materials, please put a ticket in with our Technical Support team here:

Thank you!

I have 10+ years of content on Jing/Screencast, how can I download them for backup purposes faster than one at a time?
