Hello,
Yes, MenuMaker is still available and comes with Camtasia Studio 8.

However, while the older version worked well with AVI videos, this version does not. It would be best to use the MP4 or WMV format.

All the rest of MenuMaker is still the same as before.

You can access MenuMaker from within Camtasia Studio by choosing Tools menu > Studio tools > MenuMaker.

I hope this helps!

For some reason when I try to use the MenuMaker after the production is finished the videos don't show. Any advice?

Hi,
Have you created a new menu and added the video(s) there?

If you click the Test button in MenuMaker to test your videos, do they work?

yes I added the chapters but even when I test it says: we are unable to connect to the content you've requested. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Hi..
So, you have added the chapters... but did you add the videos using the Content tab?

It sounds like you may have set up the outline / chapter names... but not actually "attached" the content files to the chapter titles?

Sorry... since I can't see what's happening or what process you are using, I'm just trying to make a good guess.

Have you searched the help file for instructions on creating a new menu?
Did you go through the Wizard setup?

Also.. are you adding content that is on a network? You may have to have the content files on your hard drive in order to access them via the menu.

With network security in place, you may get that error if you are loading files from a location other than C:\

The files are all local on my C drive. I do have other servers do you think that could be a problem if the items are on my local drive anyhow?

Hi,
I have made a video to show you what is occurring when I create a menu:

Maybe you can make a recording of your process so I can see what is happening??

Thanks,
Kelly

How did you get the menu to open in FireFox? Mine will only open in the Internet Explorer. It doesn't have an option when I right click on it to "Open with". I am using Windows 8.1

the file is too big to send you. But I do the same exact thing as you except that I don't use Screencast. Is that a problem? I could send the file via YouSEndIt if that would be helpful

Hi,
I'm only using Screencast.com to show you the video I made of the process.
It has nothing to do with files in MenuMaker.

So.. you are doing the same thing as me.. but, you are getting an error.

Can you confirm that your video will actually play? Double-click the MP4 file you want to include in the video and see if it plays in a browser like FireFox.

Can you add image files to the menu? If you haven't tried, perhaps do that and run the test menu to see if you can view the images.

You produced your video in Camtasia Studio, right? Before attempting to add it to the menu?

Maybe tell me the video file formats you want to add to the menu.

I use MenuMaker to put my videos on CD's or DVD's (depending on file size) and MenuMaker did not come with version 8.

Should I use the Menumaker program from Camtasia Studio version 6? I didn't get version 7.

Thank you

I have the same problem. Has this been resolved please?

I have added video content like always do in menumaker.
When I run the test menu, links work and videos open.
When I create the menu, The menu creates fine but when you click on links, FIrefox says it can't find the content.

Thanks.

I have exactly the same issue as 'undermanager' except that I'm using IE as my browser so I don't get the Firefox 'file not found' error message. I just get a white rectangle.
The MP4 videos are created in Camtasia Studio 8 using the 'MP4 only Up to 480' option, both with and without video player.
I have also tried using the 'Custom Prodution Settings' option with 'Embed video into HTML' checked (by default) with the same result.
NB: .wmv videos play fine but that's not what I need!

I'm sorry to hear your having trouble with MenuMaker! It is still included in Camtasia Studio 8.0.4 (find it under Tools > Studio tools > Camtasia MenuMaker), but right now, it's only compatible with .avi and .wmv videos. Please produce your projects using either of those two file types if you plan on using MenuMaker.

Thanks for the reply Aaron.
The doco seems a bit confuzzling with mentions of MP4 here and there amongst what I've read including various forum responses to other questions.
I've noticed other threads about Camtasia Theatre. It looks like it might have had the functionality I require. WIll go back to them and have a look to see what I may have missed out on.

I was emailed a workaround that works:

... take the supporting files that were generated with the MP4 file (the controller files, scripts/skins folder, and the js/swf files) and move them into that Misc folder (buried in the Media folder generated by MenuMaker).

MENUMAKER is a great product.  I haven't found an alternative program that can honestly replace this product (if you have a suggestion, please let me know!).   I personally want to continue using Menumaker.   I understand that this is not a money-making product, and you guys are no longer maintaining this program and I'm not asking for any new features.  I just have one request, please do fix this one bug!   It is a royal PAIN IN THE REAR having to manually COPY all the supporting files in the MISC folder.   Half the times I forget that I have to do this, and end up creating setup programs that are broken.

We create our software's "info" package using Techsmith's Menumaker.  The end product looks great, and contains various sub-menu levels, etc.  Unfortunately, EVERY TIME I "recompile" I have to MANUALLY remember to "COPY" numerous files in various MISC folders...    This bug has been in there for YEARS, and if you could just fix this one bug, it will make your menumaker a much more useful and less stressful-to-use product.

Thank you,

Luigi Ballatori

Thanks, here it is almost 2 years later(April 2015) & I am having the same problem. I was able to do your fix by copying the files over into Menu Maker Misc folder. Then it worked. You would think this issue would be fixed by now.

Hello,

I'm sorry, but, we are currently not doing any development work on MenuMaker. This includes bug fixing.
I would anticipate we will not be doing any bug fixing or further development on this program in the future.

I am sorry you are having this trouble. But for now, the offered work around is all there is.

Why not? It is a very nice feature. It looks so nice. I like it better than a TOC

this is an example of a "button-style menu" that front-ends a collection of software tutorial videos; essentially, a video itself made only from hotspots [no video content per se] that is used to navigate the target collection, much like the UI output of Menu Maker

would something like this work for you?

Was there supposed to be a link to look at something as the example?

I would like to learn about using hot spots to navigate to a collection. I am trying to find out more about how to do that.

Thanks for the link. Yes, I think that would work. I take it that we can put any picture behind those links - correct? Can you direct me to a tutorial about hotspots?

The menu did work with my other problem with Internet Explorer, that is what I did like about the menu - it didn't have the security issues that upset the Internet Explorer.  I most likely will have the same problem with the hotspots, but I'd like to give it a try.

this short tutorial discusses image hotspots configured as go-to-marker type, but the concepts work for any callout type ...

http://www.screencast.com/t/QhdIkJWw3qV

the hotspots in my example are configured as jump-to-URL type, where the URLs point to the various videos

there may be a better tutorial about hotspots in this collection [?] ...

you might also want to look at the Camtasia Studio help files

I currently have version 8.5 and was thinking of upgrading to version 8.6, however the pictures I see of version 8.6 don't seem to have "Tools" in the top menu bar

Ok. I have no idea why, but I've just made another Menu using MenuMaker for another set of projects, using MP4, and everything works, without me having to copy over other files!!! Very strange.

Come on TechSmith. Let's get this sorted out properly!

No Femin it cannot produce a Menu which can work on a DVD Player if I read your question correctly. If you are asking if you use the Menu Maker and want it to play directly on a DVD Player from there with Menus then no it is not designed for that. You would have to use a secondary software for DVD like Adobe Encore, Premiere or do a search for free software on the internet. Thanks for posting and you might want to take a look at the Menu Maker Help File to get a better idea of what you can do with it. Hope this helps have a great day.
