Merge Image into Video

Is it possible to merge an image into the video, so the whole video does not need to be re recorded?

Hi Shirlz,

You can import an image (png, jpg) into the Clip Bin and add it as a Callout that overlays the part of the video track you want to replace. For best results, you would want to create the new image with the same dimensions as your video...so that it fits nicely in the window.

Also, the Callout image "may" have a shadow effect added to it by default. To turn this off, expand the "Effects" menu in the Callouts Tab and deselect shadow after you add the image to your Callout track.

Hi Ryan,

Thank you for your reply. I have done this. However, my issue arises cause I have pan & zoom on the video. When it zooms, the call out image continues to stay in the same location. When it zoom's in & out, and the image then appears, however I need it to look as if the image was always there. The sudden appearing draws your attention to it. The fading the image in and out doesnt work either cause it remains static the in the location, when you zoom in.

Yes, you made perfect sense. I've come across the same issue before with a zoom keyframe messing up the placement of a callout. Our development team is working hard on a solution for this.

To fix this in my projects, I've sometimes copied/pasted the callout...and moved it frame by frame in the preview window to try and match it the best I can to move with the zoom. It isn't always pretty...but it's worked well enough at times. I typically zoom all the way in on my timeline and move frame by frame. Here's an example of me trying to show you this process.

As far as the "sudden appearing" issue with the callout...what do you think about putting a fade transition (set to a half second) right before that part of the video? I know the fade will still be obvious to the viewer, but it "may" be more subtle to show the change?

Hopefully someone else reading this may have other suggestions for you...other than re-recording that section of your video. If I think of anything else, I will let you know.

Perhaps alternatively try adding the image on the PIP track at full main video size? You can, if needed, fade the PIP in/out.

Also, you can produce as avi, without the image, to burn in the zoon pans; then add the image to a new project using the avi. That way, the image will not move with the zoom pans.

Ryan- your method makes sense. As you say in the video, it will be time consuming, especially as I have 5 zooms in the video.

I will attempt Bob's suggestion. As yet, Ive not used PIP, but of course it makes sense.

Will try it out and let you know how I get on :-)

I have a video in .flv format. In the first 10 seconds of the video, it has the wrong phone number. There is audio and talking in this time frame. How can I change the phone number to the correct one while keeping the video in tact?

Do you still have the .camproj for this video? If so, I would recommend using a text callout to fix the phone number. You could create another rectangle callout to cover up the incorrect phone number, and place the text callout on top of it.

As this chat is a while ago I wonder if there is a better solution available now on how to add an image to a video track that follows all manipulations (eg. zoom, tilt,...)?

Newbie_!,

You can manipulate Zoom Levels, Tilt, Rotation, Depth of field/ {Z-axis} and more under the "Visual Properties" tab.

Left click the media on the timeline to select it and adjust the values available to you. Play around with the values to see what you can accomplish.

Thanks for your input, this is the way I have done it already.

However, it would be cool to sync an animation of 2 tracks (ie. select both and modify once) or even merge the tracks in case one wants their animations always being in parallel.

I misunderstood your question.

You can select more than one image at the same time to accomplish that.

You can also right click on the selected  media's and chose "Group" That will combine the images together and place them on one track.

Hello,
I see this thread was from years ago, and I'm wondering if it is still relevant today.  I have some images I want to place at strategic places over my recorded video.  I cannot see a way to import them to the callout, and have yet to find anything named "PIP" within the Snaggit editor.  I have several videos I need to complete by adding image overlays, so learning this is kinda important.  I'm hoping someone is still monitoring this thread and can respond with some help.  I'd appreciate it so much!

Hi there

You posted into the Camtasia forum but seem to be talking about SnagIt. Note that SnagIt has very limited editing capability. Basically, slice and dice from a video. Adding an overlay isn't really possible to achieve.
