I wish the Mac version of Snagit had effect filters (e.g. Spotlight and Magnify) like Windows does.

This conversation has been merged. Please reference the main conversation: Spotlight and Magnify features for SnagIT on the Mac

I miss the color editing features in SnagIt PC. Just switched to Mac and seems like a lot of the filters and editing features I loved in the PC version aren't available in the Mac version.

Thanks for the question. Yes, you are correct, in Release 1.0 we do not have the filters. We are working hard to add the most important features from Snagit on Windows in future versions. You also mentioned missing editing features, anything specific? We appreciate your feedback. These requests help us prioritize our work.

Hi Tiffany, I appreciate your quick response. Helps me to not go looking for a button I overlooked on the current release.

If one of those editing features comes to mind while I'm using SnagIt I'll post it here.

Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents for a fade on the edges effect. Seems like I always have to switch to the PC version to execute that one. The other one I use often on the PC version is the "spotlight & magnify" I often select multiple areas to get a non standard selection (polygon) and then apply that effect. Would like to put those two at the top of your list.

I have good news for you! The feature you requested was added to our new release, Snagit on Mac 2.0!

How do I use the new color filters feature?
First, you need to upgrade to Snagit 2.0 and either purchase a license or give it a go in trial mode. Once you're working with the latest version of Snagit, select the Effects tab and click the color filters button to apply the selected filter. The default filter is grayscale, but you can change it to sepia or invert inside the color filter settings.

How do I upgrade to Snagit on Mac 2.0?
It's easy! If you already own a copy of Snagit on your computer, simply start it up and select "Check for updates" from the Snagit menu. Snagit will automatically find and install the latest version of Snagit after you click through the prompts.

You can also download the app directly from our website here: http://www.techsmith.com/download/sna...

Is this a free upgrade?
No. Each major release of Snagit may have free minor updates that offer bug fixes and other new features, but major releases of our software require a new license. However, if you purchased Snagit on Mac 1.0 or Snagit 10 for Windows, you're eligible to recieve a nice discount on the latest version. You can find details here: http://www.techsmith.com/upgrade/snagit/

What other new features does Snagit on Mac 2.0 offer?
Lots! Get more details on our website here:

I have Snagit for Windows and love it, but the Mac version (for $49) really needs to have some of the same effects - like Spotlight. That's a HUGE feature for me and unless Snagit 3.0 is coming out soon (or some other update)... I'll probably have to go with Little Snapper, instead. Judging from some of the other reviews I've read here and in other forums.. sounds like I'm not alone. Any chance of adding it?

I bought a SnagIt Mac license yesterday, but should have tried it first. I'm a fan of the Windows version with its edge fading and spotlight & magnify and it is a disappointment that the Mac version doesn't have these effects! I really hope that they will be added soon!

Have switched from windows to mac. Cant believe that spotlight and magnify are missing from snagit 2.0 for mac.
This feature is needed else I will be swapping to another product for both windows and mac as I cannot have two interfaces to keep updated and to have other members of the team all working on different pieces of software.

Put me on the "You're...you're kidding, right" pile.

I used Spotlight and Magnify on PC. I used video capture on PC. I spent $50 on the Mac version, and find that it's no better than...any free screen capture software I can download plus the Photoshop CS5.5 I already have.

The whole point of Camtasia is getting the job done quickly. You finally added video capture to version 2.0 (and dinged me again for a purchase price in the process - for a feature that was already in the PC version I was used to), and I STILL don't have Spotlight & Magnify.

The more I use Camtasia, the more I'm disapointed. Why is the Mac version full-price but half-value? It's totally inferior to the PC version.

Same here.. can't believe I upgraded my trial Mac version only to find out all it does it basic screenshots and leaves out the most important feature -- SPOTLIGHT AND MAGNIFY.

Is this feature a priority for Macs? Why was it left out?

Update 5/07/12:
Get Satisfaction does not allow me to fork this thread into a new thread. While we added some effects functionality to the 2.0 release of Snagit on Mac (2/28/12), this conversation has evolved to highlight the desire for functionality similar to the "Spotlight and Magnify" feature in Snagit on Windows.

I'm going to slightly update the title to help others add their voices and find this information.

Spotlight and Magnify is such a useful feature and it was the first thing I was looking for in the Mac version and only to realize it's not there! Please do it. Writing manuals with screen captures cannot do without this feature. Many thanks. +1 vote!!

I'd love to see spotlight & magnify added. I was looking at the neat little PDF tips document mentioned today and realised that this feature wasn't available on the Mac.

Please add the Spotlight and Magnify feature to the Mac version! This is a really helpful feature that's available in the Windows version and I'm actually quite surprised it's not included with Mac.
