Missing the Horizontal Scroll, Arrow Buttons at the Bottom in Camtasia 9

Was in Camtasia 8, missing in v9.
The horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the presentation does not have arrows to use in navigating finer details of large files. The arrow buttons on v8 allowed precise movement to a location in a large presentation.
In v9, when working on large presentations, the scroll bar shoots too far to the right or too far right to the left. Makes it almost impossible to navigate.

Are there plans to put these in?

My platform: Dell NB, Intel i7, Windows 10 Home 64-bit (current on updates), 8GB RAM, MS Office 2016, NVIDIA graphics

What you can do is place your cursor in an open area of the timeline that contains no media. Then, left click and release, hold down the"Shift" Key and scroll using the mouse wheel. That will have the same effect as the arrows.

I don't know if the arrows will be coming back or not but I would expect to see them brought back if enough people ask about them. You should post your question this as a feature request.I for one will vote "Yes" for it if you do. {:> )

I too want my arrows back it is a pain when you do not have a mouse with you...I think it is a ridiculous move on Tech Smith's part to get rid of the horizontal scrollbar.  I travel a lot and often don't have space to have my laptop up and running and use a mouse.  Why did you do this?  Please stop trying to be like Adobe and make it harder for us to teach our end users.

you can make precise, 1 frame moves horizontally using the < and > keys; they do same as L/R arrows did in CS8

also hold down shift and that will make a precise selection

Hello,

We have added a lot of hotkeys to the new Camtasia (Win and Mac) and we have also changed several of them.

You can find a list of all the hotkeys here: https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/222245387

You can also find the PDF Hotkeys Guide at the bottom of that page to download and print to keep as a reference guide.

I deliberately do not use hotkeys because when I press the wrong thing, then I'm somewhere I don't want to be. I prefer to use a mouse.

I need the scroll bars.

Your link does not work. And I don't want to use  hot keys anyway. Who doesn't put scroll arrows on scroll bars?? You folks really fell down when you decided to delete those. Please put them back in!!

I need the arrows put back at either ends of the horizontal scroll.  None of the new work arounds are as good as Camtasia 8 for moving. It now takes me longer to edit than it did in Camtasia 8.

Joes is using Cam9. TechSmith removed this, probably trying to slim things down, but it's made life difficult for many.

AGREE! Why remove the arrow keys?!? it's really upsetting. There's nothing there instead of them to impede having them stay there. Please bring them back. It makes me HATE UPGRADING AND PAYING FOR MORE when you take away very practical functions that make the new version a little less functional than the last. THAT'S NOT WHAT I EXPECT IN AN UPGRADE...THAT'S TAKING IT BACKWARDS

Came here because I have the same issue since I "upgraded" to v9. Seriously, you guys need to make the TOP portion (with the bin etc) a little slimmer, that whole middle strip with the giant arrows A LOT slimmer, and EXPAND the bottom part so I can see what I'm doing when I'm navigating audio tracks. And PLEASE allow us to make the audio tracks thinner in height. I was able to do this in V6 and it was much better since I could look at several tracks at once. But above all, PUT BACK THE HORIZONTAL SCROLLER AT THE BOTTOM. It's really difficult to navigate and as another person said above, shortcut keys are annoying.

The media bin can be made a little slimmer.
You can collapse the menu items down to Icons removing the Text.

Place your cursor over the divider as shown below and slide it to the left.

You can expand the timeline upward as well.  But that makes the Canvas area smaller so it's less than ideal.
The scroller at the bottom is there. It's not illuminated until the media extends beyond your field of view.
The timeline tracks have a scroll  bar as well. All of these things are shown in the image below.

The best approach is to detach the canvas and work with dual monitors.
The canvas full screen on one monitor so you can see what your doing in full detail.
And the timeline on the other.

Camtasia's UI could use more customizable features to be optimized for dual monitors as well

Very disappointed with ver 9. The missing arrows are causing editing on large videos to take 2-3 times as long b/c no way to move precisely along track. What a waste of money this has been. For future projects, I'm using version 8, and I refuse to pay good money to upgrade versions in the future since Techsmith is so out of touch with their users' needs.

I liked the arrow to {:>)

However, if you use a mouse. You can place the cursor in the timeline area. Hold down Ctrl and scroll the timeline.

Hi Holly,
I'm sorry you are having trouble! In Version 9 we did move to a whole new platform with a new UI. So, things are a bit different. However, we also added a lot of keyboard shortcuts for maneuvering around the timeline with greater precision.

In the help file, there is a whole section on navigating along the timeline. This image shows just a few ways.

Have you checked the help out? I am hoping this will get you what you need for the desired navigation. It may take a bit of practice, using the hotkeys, but after a bit, you may find it to be more convenient.

You can download that PDF here: https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/360004679352
Please look at page 108 where the timeline navigation begins.

Also, since Camtasia 9 is older, we will not be doing any updates to that version.

Thank you Kelly. But, the problem with hotkeys (and why I have avoided them like the plague since 1981 when I first started using computers ), is often you hit the wrong key and mess up the entire file. I'm stuck editing in 9 for this video b/c it's not backward compatible. But, from this point forward, I will be using 8... and, like I said in my post, I won't waste my money on upgrades that take away functionality.

We still don't have the arrows back and nothing Techsmith suggests is as good as the arrows.  The people who are programming Camtasia now are in love with shortcuts and 2 step solutions when they used to be one click  They are not as good as what we had.  Still hoping that one day they will wake up and give us back the good tools we had.

I agree with Holly, hot keys are garbage and I have to look at the keyboard every time I use them. What we had was a simple one click removed in favor of searching on a key board.  What were the programmers thinking?
