Hey Richard,

Are you referring to the Snagit Editor?

Yes Snagit editor 10.0.1
The Capture thumnail tray on the bottom and the Search and Folder Panel on the right are gone. I have been using this software for years and cannot find any command to resolve the problem. Do I need to Re-install?

I also have the same problem. Can someone please instruct how to get the capture tray at the bottom of the Snagit editor? I'm on version 10.0.1 (Build 58) - Mar 21 2011.

I'm having the exact same issue with not being able to see the capture tray and folder panel in SnagIt editor on Windows 7. I'm using version 11.2.1. What's ironic is that I have the exact same version on another Windows 7 machine in both show up perfectly fine.

If there is a way to turn this on and off it's completely lost on me. I've been a long time user and big fan of SnagIt but this is incredibly frustrating. Someone from TechSmith needs to weigh in here and help a few of us out.

Seems to me that this smells like a bug; I involved my IT to help with the issue and we decided to upgrade to 11.2.1 but still have the same issue.  They are puzzled.

Just started having this same issue recently. Also the Library is no longer pointing to the correct datastore library. I reinstalled SNAGIT 10.2 and that fixed it. Then it broke down again the next day! It used to work fine on my Windows 7 PC for many months before. Maybe some windows securtiy patch killed it?

Write a reply No capture tray, no search pane, library pointing to wrong folder, and no way to reset any of them. Re-boot doesn't help. Only a re-install alleviates theproblem temporarily. 10.2 snagit

This is where the capture library is specified and you can change/repair it here.

It's in REGEDIT as NavPaneSelection. HKEY_CURRENT_USER SECTION.

Change HKEY_CURRENT_USER.NavPaneSelection to point to your desired directory path such as "D:\Data\SnagIt\screenshots\

I find it a bit disheartening that there are numerous replies to this topic, most of which are other people also posting that their Open Capture Tray has disappeared, yet there has not been a single reply by a TechSmith rep (other than asking if the OP was talking about the Editor).

I too am having this problem.  I am on Version 9.0.2 and out of the blue, after 5+ years of using the app, my Open Capture Tray has disappeared.  I'm flying blind here and would love to get it back.

Why am I still on Version 9?  ...well, because the only way to upgrade to a newer version is to pay for it.  That said, I'm perfectly fine with using the version I have and have no interest in shelling out more money.    ...at least not until I know that I can get some support on the app if something goes wrong.  Thus far, it's not looking good.

This is but one of many other threads where users are frustrated that their window has disappeared and cannot get it back.

Please help.

Has anyone found a fix for the Capture Tray suddenly going missing? I see someone posted about making a Regedit update but wondered if that really worked before I call Tech Support. I don't want to be tied up for hours while they play around with my system trying things that don't stand a chance of working. I've used SnagIt for years & never had this happen before.

Thanks!

Hi DeeAnn,

I'm sorry you are having this trouble!

I think your best route is to open a ticket with support. That reg edit thread is quite old and a lot has changed since then - both in Snagit and the Windows OS.

You can go here: https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us  and open a ticket or give them a call.
If you open a ticket, copy/paste a link to this post in the ticket.

You may be able to fix the capture tray in hiding issue by following the steps described here:

https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/the-open-captures-tray-disappeared-in-snagit-10

(That will only work for Snagit 10, I'd have to research whether it works for v.11 or 12)

David for users who have some experience with computers editing the registry might work good for them. I have no problem editing my Windows Registry but make sure I always back up the Registry beforehand for more assurance that if something goes wrong that makes other things not work correctly I have an option to revert it back to the way it was before the change was made.

This may or may not be a good work-a-round or fix but it is not the best option in my personal opinion. I think TechSmith should look more into what is causing this issue and come up with a fix or file to fix the issue. Just my opinion and not knocking anyone or the suggestions you offer down. I am just looking at this from the eyes of the less experienced and the ones who may not be able to edit their Registry or the ones who do not feel comfortable enough to edit the Registry. Have a great day/night.

Hi Fred, thanks for sharing your insight from the user perspective. You are correct that having (probably the majority of) users do anything in the Windows Registry is overly daunting. I wince having to respond to problems by suggesting that, but for Snagit 10 users who would like to have a remedy to this trouble without having to purchase an upgrade, I wanted to throw it out there as a possible solution.

It would be interesting to hear if this missing capture tray issue is only seen in Snagit 10.

I use SnagIt 12 and have not ran into this issue as of yet David but if I do I will let someone know. Thanks for replying back. Have a great day and I too am wanting to know if this is just happening in SnagIt 10 or newer versions too. If so it would be nice to hear from other users who have experienced this problem and what their solution(s) were or what TechSmith has done to help them with this issue and get it fixed. Thanks. :)
