More keyboard shortcut/hotkey customization needed

We need more customizable keyboard hotkeys.  I typically edit using my left hand on the keyboard and right on the mouse.  I can split using the S key, but I'd love to be able to map the delete or cut function to my X key (no control needed).  I know it's a small thing, but I do a lot of editing and this would speed up my work and increase productivity.
Personally I think all the functions in the software should be available to map to a hotkey/shortcut.

I agree. Especially with things you use frequently like transitions. This really needs to be a priority.

I can't understand why the editor only has 8 shortcuts available. Most software's have more than anybody needs.

yeah, and for me, it's a deal breaker. If they don't make some changes, I'll have to switch to Screenflow since keyboard shortcuts save me so much time when editing a lot of the same kinds of material.

Any update on this? Is it still just being "considered" or is it being implemented?

I have used Camtasia since v. 7 and Techsmith people either they are not clever enough to program about shortcuts - I honestly think that - OR they have other priorities.

Techsmith: Learn from Total Commander/Christian Ghisler or Audacity or Notepad++ and other software, that are good with shorctuts. I have used Total Commander for more than 10 years. I can map most of my keys to do whatever function, I want !!

Please get into shortcuts!!!!!

Guys at Techsmith ... seriously ... To have the ability to use the standard  JKL keys similar to FCPX, Premier is a no brainer. Allow us to be more productive with shortcut keys mapping.

Hi Everyone!

We are pleased to announce that we have just released our newest, most powerful version of Camtasia yet. Although all of our hotkeys aren't customizable, we have a subset that are:

And we have expanded out defined hotkeys, here is a subset from the Edit menu that includes Ripple Delete:

We also have a support article that shows even more.

You can buy Camtasia here or download the trial here.

Please feel free to post your feedback and feature requests here in our Community forums and remember, all technical support-related inquiries should be directed to our dedicated Technical Support team at https://support.techsmith.com/

Thanks again!

Hi and thanks for submitting your idea/feature request!

As outlined in our New Community Processes post, feature requests are open to voting up through the first, where we will then tally the votes and present the findings to our product teams. To ensure we have the most accurate data, on the 1st of the month we will be locking the threads that were listed in the Feature Request Round-up that was posted on the 15th. Once we have reviewed the submitted feature requests, our product team(s) may respond to the request, and if that is the case then that thread will then be unlocked for further discussion.

In the event that your idea is not selected for a response feel free to resubmit the idea and share it with your colleagues to garner as much exposure as possible!

Thank you again for your idea and we look forward to hearing more from you!

Hi there!

While we worked to improve the hotkeys in Camtasia 9, we are aware that some additional revision still needs to be made and while we do not have any specific date in mind, we are looking to revisit and improve the current hotkey situation. Much in part due to feedback such as this and as such we truly appreciate you taking the time to submit your thoughts and ideas; it certainly pointed out a few things to our Product team and because of that, we will be looking into ways we can improve these in a future update.

Thanks again!

-Robert

Hi Robert,

Thank you for feedback.

Just want to emphasize one more time importance of hotkeys customization. It would be perfect to be able to customize all commands, not just few.

Also, some commands don't have hotkeys at all.

for example. I very often use fade in/out (that don't have hotkeys). Ideally I would have made hotkeys on left side of keyboard to do it fast.

Best,
Razmik

Hello! I concur with hotkeys customization.

I just upgraded my mac version to 3, and sadly, it removed a hotkey I used to use a lot (Custom Animation).

Furthermore, it seems there is another hotkey I do want (Extend Frame) but it's only available on the windows version.

If there were custom hotkeys, then I could just map it myself!

Thanks again! ^_^

Using Ctrl + Shift + Key is inefficient for me. Would love to be able to use simpler hotkeys for all features. Just being able to use - and + to zoom in and out (or up arrow, down arrow) would save me frustrating keyboard combos (I don't enjoy zooming into the timeline with keyboard because it requires two hands. Would rather keep right hand on mouse at all times).

+1 for fully customizable hotkeys

Totally agree with Derek S's suggestion to change keyboard shortcut for Ripple functionality.

I was actually talking to support with this few days ago.

I am using Camtasia almost on daily basis and I found that cutting process can be much faster and elegant if we would be able to change keyboard shortcut for Rippling (http://prntscr.com/g8mx89)

The reason why, is that when I do post production of videos, I keep my left hand on keyboard. I use "space" for playing and pausing video, then I use hotkey "S" for spliting video and with my right hand, I use mouse to select specific track which should be rippled.

The "problem" comes when I need to ripple video. Then I have to take out my right hand from mouse and find Delete button and then take mouse again.
And when I am post producing hours of video content, at the end it takes much more time.

Suggestion:
At the end, it would be great to have this shortcut on left side of keyboard (something like you already provide for Mac users - http://prntscr.com/g8n08q).
CTRL+SHIFT+X would be great also on Windows.

It will really speed up post producing.

Totally! I love using my Reaper audio editing program for many reasons but the fact that you can hotkey literally every function makes it super efficient and perfect for the needs of the user. I work the same way: one hand on the keyboard, the other on the mouse. The interruption of flow in Camtasia by taking my hand off the mouse is such a buzzkill.

I work like you, but I use Ctrl+X to delete selection from timeline - and still keep my right hand on the mouse

Customizing hotkeys is being actively worked on by the Camtasia team. We're opening up everything that we can to be customized by users. Exceptions would be reserved system shortcuts (e.g. Ctrl+S) and hotkeys that have mouse drag modifiers.

You have had many years to do this. I suggest that you pay some good programmers to do it. There are many programmes out there that do key mapping. I have used Total Commander for more than 10 years. I have used CS since v. 7 and honestly I have the impression, that you do NOT know how to do it !

If you as user read this, I suggest, that you make video, how you work with CS and tell Techsmith in the video, what you would like as shortcut key. In other words: what do we do often, that we would like to do easy with either keyboard and/or mouse.

I just sent a video to Techsmith: Selection with keyboard in Audacity

When talking about hotkeys... do you also consider adding the Ctrl modifier for disabling canvas snapping (as it is for timeline snapping)?
