I am trying to add a video from my DSLR Canon 5d Mark IV but Camtasia does not support it and throws an error. The video codec is motion jpeg. Is this expected?

Hope to hear soon.

I would say so; it doesn't appear in the list of supported formats which can be found here. (There are some workarounds for unsupported file types there, though.) You can raise supporting it as a suggestion but I'm not sure how much traction it will get; a lot of cameras use more modern / standard formats. (That's an observation, not a criticism of Canon. They have a good reason for using it but it can cause problems in cases like this.)

Have you tried running it through Handbrake to convert it to a supported format.
May not be ideal but it may be an option until that type is supported.
