MOV files for Opening Video

I have seen related questions, but I cannot find anyone addressing this particular issue. I have several .MOV files - openings for the most part (fire, smoke, lights, etc.). When I try to use them, the video is choppy. I am using version 8.6 and of course I have the latest QuickTime. Any way around this issue? Thanks!

Hello there thomas.zucker-scharff,
The security risk associated with QuickTime is not spelled out clearly enough and misunderstood by many people.
It's the QuickTime player that is the security risk. Not the MOV codecs that are critical for editing and producing .mov videos.

There is still a way to use .mov videos in Camtasia and any other program that requires the codecs to be installed. You can produce videos to MOV with just the codecs installed.

What you need to do is uninstall QuickTime first.

Then it's just a matter of reinstalling the codecs.

I created this video a while back to show what happens when you remove QuickTime  and what needs to be done to install just the codecs.
