MOV PNG not working. Other supported transparent video formats?

Although there're many threads recommending .mov with the png codec, the preview window in 9.1 is showing me a black screen when the mov video is loaded on the timeline. Not sure if that's only me.

Regardless, is there ANY video format that Camtasia officially supports, that allows transparency?

Thanks in advance!

You need Camtasia 9.0.4 or later to import mov's with the png codec.

18 April, 2017: Camtasia (Windows) 9.0.4

  • Added a display of playhead time and project duration
  • Added support for media with PNG codec to allow MOV files with transparency
  • Addressed an issue with YouTube sign in due to Google’s change to OAuth support
  • Addressed an issue where a color picker would not accept RGB values while editing a callout
  • Addressed an issue where OTF custom font types were unusable
  • Addressed an issue where unnecessary meta data files were created during production
  • Addressed an issue with subfolder creation during production
  • Improvements to trial and registration windows
  • Removed OneDrive and O365 SharePoint sharing destinations (known as ‘My Places’) due to security vulnerability
  • Other bug fixes and improvements
I don't know why you're running such an old version of Camtasia?
All version 9 Updates are free provided you have a valid software key.

You can download and install a new or an older version from this link.

I suspect that the video your currently trying to use "May" have an issue causing the problem.

This is a small zip file of touch gestures I created using the mov png codec with transparency.https://www.mediafire.com/file/g3f4yksst557fi6/Gestures%202.zip

It's only 14mb. If they will play in Camtasia, it's not the codec. It's probably your video.

Thanks! Will try later. I was hoping given the official stance of Apple, that camtasia will have some other officially supported codec for video with alpha, but I guess mov png is still 'it' then...

I'm afraid png is all you've got. Here's the kicker, I created those touch gestures in Premier Pro 2017. Adobe dropped support for the PNG codec in Premier Pro 2018. So I have to keep Premier Pro 2017 installed on my computer. Just in case I want to create something with transparency for use in Camtasia.

Video was originally QuickTime rle codec, then converted to QuickTime png. Used FFE software. With or without audio result was the same.
