We're using captions to put translated text burned-in on-screen. We take a 16 x 9 video, and extend the height in Camtasia Studio to return the aspect ratio to 4 x 3. They, we add the translated text in the black box at the bottom of the screen.

It sure would be nice to put the text somewhere else on occasion - like at the top of the screen.

you can [effectively] do this now by using text callouts [to hold the captions text] placed at top of canvas over black area

Good idea, Kayakman, but we have around 120 individual captions synced to the video in multiple languages. We're looking for a solution where we can keep the caption functionality (begin and end times recorded in the .srt files) and not have to do a lot of manual copy and paste work.

here's another "duck tape" workaround ...

screencast just the captions displayed in an under video area while the video plays; use that capture as a 2nd video, placed at top area of canvas

that way, you'll keep the [various language] captions synced with the video, and not have to do manual copy/pastes

maybe worth a try?
