(This idea comes what we’ve heard here in this community as well as from other customer feedback methods we utilize. The feedback we gather here will help us gauge how well it fits our users’ needs. Please let us know what you think)

The Problem
The screen area for timeline tracks is limited even after detaching the canvas. Provide more flexibility to move, resize, detach timeline and other panels of the UI.

We've updated the status of this idea to Under Consideration.

We will be looking into ways to give more flexibility to the UI layouts. As we progress on that we'll provide any updates on this post.

Some good news for those of you that have Camtasia 2019 and a maintenance plan, or those who will be upgrading to Camtasia 2020 when it comes out this spring:

We will be shipping a detachable timeline feature on both Mac and Windows. Detaching / Reattaching can be accomplished through the UI, or via keyboard shortcut which makes it very useful in both multi and single monitor setups.

We will also be shipping some significant improvements to the Media Bin. There will be 4 different layout options within the current fixed size footprint along with nice sorting / filtering options and some conveniences functions (e.g. find media on timeline, delete unused media).

We aren't going to have completely resizable panels and layouts throughout the application, but the detachable timeline and media bin are going to improve your quality of life in the editor significantly (I've been working with these builds for months and couldn't imagine going back).

Hope this is some good news to start the year off with. We're in the final throws of buckling up what will be a very, very significant Camtasia major release. I can't wait to get it into your hands.

Best,
