My old laptop fails to upgrade to Windows 10 (newest version) . I've purchased a new laptop and want to move Camtasia to the new laptop. Am I allowed to do this?

Short answer: Yes.

Licensing for Techsmith products are on a per computer basis. By principle, you can move your license from your old laptop to a new laptop.

Install on a Second Machine (Same User)

Each single user license allows the user to install on up to two computers at the same time. The following conditions must apply:

  • The computers are not both in use at the same time.
  • The software is only used by the same user who currently holds the license.
Transfer to Another User
  1. Uninstall the software from the current computer.
  2. If the key was added to your TechSmith Account, remove the key from your account.
  3. The new user can download and install the software using the same key. We recommend adding the key to the new user's TechSmith Account (Snagit and Camtasia only).

More info.

The licencing question has been answered, but I'll mention something that is sometimes overlooked when moving Camtasia to a new machine. If you have custom assets in your library, don't forget to right click in the library area of the old notebook and export the assets to a zip file, then reimport them on the new machine.

Library assets live in a folder called Program Data on the C:\ drive which, because it's a hidden folder, is sometimes overlooked when people move PCs.
