Is there a way to save an MP4 file without increasing the size of the file after editing? The original MP4 file is 11MB, however when I made edits in SnagIt and save it the MP4 file increased to 103MB

How did you make edits to a video in Snagit?

The only options for video in Snagit are to cut/trim video so the file size should be smaller if thats the editing you did.

I used a 11.1MB MP4 video and cut 50% out of it and saved it with the following results.
Start: 11.1MB
End: 6.05MB

So I  cut 50% out and it is just a little larger than 50% SMALLER in size.

HOWEVER there are lots of variables to this so that may or may not be accurate.

What do you mean by "trim"? I cannot find a tool or command to "trim" he video.

Thanks Jason.
Dubie, I did cut the beginning and end. Saved/Replaced and the MP4 file was larger than original. Tested with smaller MP4 file size and the same results. The file is larger after saving. Could it be Snagit Settings? Preferences?

There is a quality setting for video but I believe it is for the recording of video with Snagit.
I don't think it would affect the output of a video file you open with Snagit.

In the Capture Preferences (Not the Editor Preferences)  under the Capture tab you can set the Quality for video.

I always just leave mine a High and when I ran some test to try and duplicate your problem any video file I brought in to Snagit and did cuts on it was always rendered out smaller.

As I stated, This may be one for support

DING DING DING @Dubie!

That could be it - if !wally.ramos has video quality setting for high and opens a low grade video and clips it then snagy saves it at high res that would cause this problem I  believe.

Will test the theory later don’t have time ATM.
