Multi monitor with high resolution laptop and scaling

It doesn't appear that multi monitor usage with scaling has been implemented. I have a Microsoft Surface with a high resolution display that requires using scaling (200%) to look "normal". The external monitors are 1080p and 100%. Depending on which on is primary, the Snagit window is either very large or very small. I understand this must be implemented inside the Snagit application itself and is not a Windows issue. Would love to see this fixed!

FIXED for me. I had my scaling at 250%, just a bit larger than Windows suggested at 200%. Changing it to the default 200% on the Surface screen and the Snagit application behaves as expected on both the Tablet and the 2 U2414H 1080P monitors. Also the capture tray application looks normal at 200%, previously it was 4 times larger

Are you positive? It usually depends on what was plugged in when you last rebooted/logged in/changed the setting. Reboot with the monitors plugged in, then unplug. Also reboot with the monitors disconnected, then plug them in. If it holds, you're lucky!!

I am having the same issue with a Surface Book and external 1080 monitor. In addition my produced recordings are all scaling up the size of the cursor even though I have not modified any cursor effects. Have you found any solution?

Still not fixed here with Snagit 13.  Depending on whether I've started out on the Surface alone, or on the docking station (ie. what monitor is primary), Snagit is either super huge or super small.  A restart or logout fixes it, but nothing else.

Still does not work with 2018.

My guess is that it takes the scale of the *default* monitor, not the monitor it is currently on. I have Surface 4 @ 200% own screen and surface dock with 2 1200p monitors. One of 1200p is set as default. Snagit does not scale on the Surface's own screen (which is not the default screen).

In the screenshot you see Opera that is scaling right, and Snagit that does not do that.

I have a high-resolution laptop (3840x2160, scaling set to 200%)
connected to two external displays 1920 x 1080)
I just upgraded from snagit 2011 to 2018.
While 2011 has been scaling the application correctly, 2018 does not, and the menus and controls of snagit 2018 are too small to see on my high resolution screen (where I prefer to use the Snagit editor).
When will this be fixed?

I have the same issue with a
DELL XPS 9560, laptop 4k display (Scale: 250%), connected via DELL Docking station TB16, running 2 external Lenovo monitors (Scale 100%) running resolution 1920 x 1200
Snagit Ver13.1.4 (Build 8008)
Windows 10 Enterprise Edition Version 1709 Build 16299.19.

Snagit 13 Capture and Editor is too small to see on the high resolution screen, but normal size on 1920x1200.  Also text appears a little bit blury.

I just created a ticket for this problem.

I use SnagIt daily as a professional UX designer for a Windows desktop product that has over 3 million users, and I've been a loyal SnagIt user for many years...but now, SnagIt is the only app I use regularly that doesn't scale properly and doesn't even respond to Windows scaling override settings.

I'm getting close to chucking SnagIt and moving onto something else. I don't see any evidence that Techsmith even has this issue on their roadmap, which is simply inexcusable. Do they even have a roadmap that users can view?

Bah.

I agree.  Quite ironic that a tool that specializes in screen capture, cannot handle screen resolutions.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately this is still something our development team is working towards but I do not have a time frame as to when it would be fixed.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Kind Regards,

I now got Camtasia running successfully on an exterrnal monitor attached to my Surface Pro 4.

This works with both my Dell (mini-displayport to displayport cable) and my HP (minidisplayport to HDMI cable).

I set Camtasia properties to:

Windows 7 compatibility

Override DPI ON to:

Allow System (NOT enhanced system) to control.

No scaling problems and no crashing problems.

Maybe this won't last, but so far so good.

This workaround works perfect for me!

Shame on you, Techsmith!

This worked for me too. In case it helps others, you change these settings by navigating to Camtasia in Windows Explorer, right-clicking, and selecting Properties.

UPDATE: While this did fix the problem mentioned here, it causes problems with Camtasia Recorder.

Jing is completely useless on a Surface book 2 with 200% scaling as it zooms in the screen prior to capture so one can capture only part of the screen.

Are there are any plans to fix this soon, or should we look for other solutions for screen capture?

Hello all,

Tuesday we released version 2019.1.2 of Snagit Windows with much better support for multiple monitors using different DPIs. We know this has taken some time; it has required some fundamental changes to Snagit’s UI. We now have Snagit in a place where it can seamlessly move between monitors without getting ridiculously big or small. This would have impacted you in previous versions if you have a very pixel dense laptop and an external monitor (or more). I want to thank you all for your patience and those that tried it out before we updated to make sure this was working as expected. It's all very much appreciated. If you are seeing additional problems related to this, please don't hesitate to let us know here.

You can download the latest version here: https://www.techsmith.com/download/snagit/ or check for updates if you are running a previous Snagit 2019 version.

Thank you!

HI, Chris.  Thanks to you and your team for addressing this issue.  SnagIt now looks great on my two 4K monitors connected to my 15" SurfaceBook 2 via the SurfaceDocks.  Is the same update available for Camtasia?  My product licensing is through the Microsoft MVP Program.  Can you help me with upgrade keys?

Hi Paul, I'll reach out in email about the keys.

As far as Camtasia support, they have it logged for future work, not sure when that would be. But I passed along the request. Our Tech Support team also mentioned that you can have Windows override your DPI for Camtasia by adjusting its properties by right-clicking on CamtasiaStudio.exe:
