Multiple Installation of Snagit on Mac

I have a copy of Snagit 2019 and a copy of Snag it 2020, I've been hesitant in removing the 2019 copy because it breaks the library tags, dates, etc. So having two running copies is not efficient because sometimes one or the other app starts up What are the best practices in removing the Snagit 2019 program from my mac, transferring or linking all the snag and images into my Snagit 2020 application?  I have thousands of images which I've tagged. I don't want to make the same mistake back in 2018. Thank you.

Hi,

Just to make sure I understand the problem, your 2019 copy has a bunch if tagged images in the library, but in 2020 are the images there without tags, or are all the images missing?

I don't tag images but wondered whether for all versions of Snagit they are stored in the same folder? On my MAC that is Documents / Snagit / Autosaved Captures.

If they are, can you just load the images back into Snagit 2020? Apologies if I've misunderstood the question.

I don't normally tag either but I do know that I have ".snagproj" files from a bunch of versions from May 2011 up to the current date.

I may have an answer for you. See my screenshot. These items were tagged back in 2016, so that would be three or four versions back on Snagit. Looks like the tags survived several updates.  :)

Hey Gents,

I was referring to this section shown where the red arrow is pointing to, the Library section. If I uninstall Snagit 2019, will Snagit 2020, keep the tagged images? Both apps are pointing to the same directory. Thanks!

These are stored within your MAC in the folder you refer to. Unless you delete these yourself I cannot see why uninstalltion of the programme will affect those files.

All of my Snagit images going back several versions of Snagit are in the same folder on my MAC and I have never lost any files following the deletion of a previous version.

I'm running Snagit 2020 and when I look at the same library folder I have all of my tagged and untagged images going back to 2015 which coincides when I first purchased Snagit.

As a precauiton why don't you create a copy of that folder, delete the version of Snagit that you no longer and then check that the remaining version of Snagit is still showing your tagged images?

Maybe in the past you had Snagit pointing to a different directory? I'm not a power user of Snagit and can only remark on my own experience.

Hope it helps.

Looks like I'm good, removed Snagit 2019 and library is intact. Keeping the images in the same directory this time ensured no problems.
