My organization just purchased Camtasia Studio 7. We have some video files to edit, but they are .mxf files. I can't seem to get Camtasia to read these files. Are we just at a loss? Is there some way to make these files usable in Camtasia?

Hi Chad,

Camtasia Studio doesn't support the MXF format. Honestly, you're the first person I've seen even mention it (I had to look up what it was!).

I'm afraid you will have to find a program to convert the files to something that is usable in Camtasia Studio. I would suggest converting to AVI or MP4. Alternatively, if you don't have a choice, we also support MOV and WMV.

I believe HandBrake can convert the MXF format. Some details and a video about using it are available in this article:

Very sorry for the inconvenience.

HandBrake is okay. For giving priority to video quality, I use Aunsoft TransMXF Pro for Mac to convert MXF to MOV. This program can also preserve and separate multiple audio tracks in MXF files.

Ok, this was three years ago and Camtasia STILL does not support the MXF format.   A lot of cameras capture in this format now.   I hope Camtasia plans on including this format in future (near future) updates.

To import MXF to Camtasia Studio 7, it is better to use iDealshare VideoGo  convert MXF to Camtasia Studio more compatible video format.

This program enables me to import all kinds of video files like MXF, AVCHD, MKV, FLV, MPG, etc to Camtasia Studio for editing.
