My camtasia 8 trail won't render my mp4 videos.

I have the camtasia 8 trail and it's worked so far. But now it won't render my videos. I've made several other videos with the same settings; but now, after I hit the produce button and set up the video. The program goes to the rendering window then shoots to 100% and reopens the editing window. Leaving the video in rendered. I tried shortening the length to no avail. Any help or suggestions? I hope I'm being clear enough.

Hey Ariel,

Sorry to hear about your issues. Hopefully we can get you squared away.

I would start by checking where you are rendering the video to, and double checking that you have enough space on that drive. Try rendering to a place where you are 100% sure there is enough room for your movie.

If this doesn't work, let me know, and we can try something else!

I am having the same problem.. I have created several screen captures of various lengths.. anywhere from 5 minutes to over an hour. One of my captures just refuses to render.. it is about 40 minutes, but the rendering takes about an hour and 15 minutes! And I have tried rendering this particular capture about 6 times now, so I am wasting a lot of time on this. I also recreated the camrec file again, just in case it was corrupt, but it did not change the outcome.

I am rendering to an MP4 file on my hard drive (lots of free space) - I add the clip (originally recorded at 1652 x 930) to the clip bin and drag it to the timeline and then produce to MP4 only (up to 720p) with dimensions 1280 x 720. The rendering starts and runs 1.3 hours.. then the Camtasia screen returns - no error message, and NO output file saved on my system!

I have the full registered version of Camtasio Studio 8, running on a Windows 7 system. HD has 50GB free space, processor is Intel i7 with 16GB RAM.

Please help me to resolve this!

Hello CS users,

Sometimes the mp4 fails to copy out of the temp folder and into your production folder (known issue, hopefully fixed in the next release!). If this is the case, you'll be able to find your missing .mp4 there.

You can find the location of your temp folder in Camtasia Tools > Options menu

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Regards,

Aaron

Hi Aaron, I found the file but there is nothing in that file like video or anything. It's empty, where the file will get stored.

OK, this problem has raised its ugly head again, but this time slightly different.

I render a video and have it saved to the desktop. Immediately, after the rendering finishes, an icon for the newly created MP4 file appears on my desktop, then just disappears! There is no temporary file in the TEMP folder.

This is really getting frustrating!

Any ideas?

Paul, did you do a production preview before full render?

Hey Paul,

Do you use any sort of automatic backup software? Carbonite, Barracuda, something like that?

No, I did not do a production preview.. how and where do I invoke that?

No, I have no automatic backup software.. I run it on demand

I should mention that I was trying to merge 8 captures into one continuous output file.. when that failed, I tried doing only the 1st 4 files and that worked. Then I did the last 4 and that also worked. Then I tried to combine these two outputs into one file, and that failed, in that it created the output file, but it ended up being corrupt and not playable.

production preview is available when you do a custom production; in flash options controller tab, Preview button lower left corner

I had asked because I ran into some instances where doing the previews prevented the render of the final MP4; deleting the preview files = render went OK

you may have a project corruption; try producing each of the 8 captures, after editing, as an MP4 [or AVI], then combine the 8 MP4s [AVIs] into a composite project and produce

does that work?

This is beginning to be a real pain in the a$$! It appears totally random.

I have a collection of many MOV files that were created on my iPad. I transferred them to my PC, where I use Camtasia to combine them into one single MP4 file.

Basically, I add several (two to 10) MOV files to my clip bin, then use Produce and Share to create a single MP4 file. This is hit and miss.. most times it works, other times is fails - it finishes the rendering and creates the file, which briefly (for about one second) appears on my desktop and then completely disappears. Not anywere on my system, not in the trash or even in the Temp directory.

If I take only a few of these MOV files, say 2 of them, then render to produce a MP4 file, that seems to work.. then I do the same for the remainder of the files, ending up with several MP4 files.. then take these MP4 files and use them as inputs (to the clip bin) and then render these to produce a composite MP4 output file, that seems to work-- most of the time. Sometimes, I have to render each MOV file to MP4, before inputting each MP4 file to render into a composite.

As you can see, this is a real time waster, as I have to keep re-rendering the files over and over, before I finally get a good composite.

As I can render my MOV files OK individually, I suspect that my input files are not the problem. It appears that Camtasia has some sort of bug when doing lots of multiple renders over and over again.

Hi Paul. Talking of multiple renders... I had put together a video that comprised several MOV, AVI, MP4 files plus some GIFs (for static PowerPoint-type slides).

It took about 40 minutes to render and produced an MP4 output file (about 320Mb). When the rendered video starts to play, it displays a message from the Flash player, saying that's it's stopped an unsafe operation (this never normally happens when displaying a rendered video). When I try to run the MP4 file by itself, I get a message saying that there is an error with the codec, and it does not run.

Although, this problem is not directly related to yours, I found that by exiting and restarting Camtasia, the rendering would work correctly. This suggests to me that there is a problem where multiple renders possibly take up more and more memory until the rendering fails. I take it that you have tried your full rendering immediately after starting Camtasia and/or you have plenty of memory on your computer?

Srephen, your problem is obviously different from mine.. in my case, after rendering for over an hour, the output file icon just briefly displays on my desktop then disappears. NO error messages, and the file is no where to be found. Very frustrating, especially wasting all that time, and NO error messages!

Restarting Cam does not seem to have an effect. In fact, the problem is sort of hit and miss. And I have lots of space, a fast i7 processor with 16 GB RAM, so I don't think I am suffering from low power or capacity.

My problem is just strange. I will go to render my video, NO icon will appear where I am trying to put it, and even after it says it renders 100%, there is NO file ANYWHERE! I checked the temp file to!

Just edited a video - went to finish up and it won't save render or anything - scared to close out of Camtasia Studio (8) for fear all my work is lost - look in my temp folders, everywhere don't find it - it just won't do anything when I hit save as!

I am having the exact problem as described by Paul Leduc. My mp4 files appears to be deleted before closing the rendering out. Hope a solution can be found for this! I noted that the original query is marked as solved. This is clearly not the case judged by the others experiences in this thread.

More comments on the disappearing rendered mp4 file:
- I've found that if I tick the production options (show production results or show video after production) Cam at least produces an error message when the file is deleted at the end of the rendering process.
- I cannot find any files stored by Cam in the temp folder as suggested above.
- The production review simply stops when it cannot continue and no error message is produced/ Is there a log file somewhere?
- I do normally use a Seagate extension drive to render to, and sometimes switching to the internal drive helps.
- The problem occurs usually after having rendered a few files, which could be indicative of a memory [dropping] issue
- Rebooting Cam sometimes helps, but I've even had to reboot the PC to get it to work again. In other words, the same file is rendered properly after rebooting.
- Not directly related to this issue, but I've found that Cam generally seems to experience more issues when rendering from mp4 source files, e.g. stuttering at splits and not being able to play/render fading at splits. Converting the mp4 to AVI normally solves these.
- I have 2.5MB of useable memory on my PC (an i5 laptop with Windows 7), which may not be sufficient. Of course having more than 4GB in memory does not help on a 32-bit Windows installation - it cannot address more than that anyway (unless you have ramdisk or similar).
IAll I can say is that I am no closer in solving the issue, but found some workarounds (not very satisfactory ones I should add) to get the job done.

Hey Mike, sorry to hear about your issues. So the file is rendering out, but is coming out as an avi rather than an mp4? Is that correct? Or is it not rendering out at all and is stuck at 100%? What OS are you running?

Hey Mike, is there any way you can break up your recording sessions? Try making it two half hour recordings and see if that helps? Where are you rendering to? Somewhere like Dropbox?

We have the same problem with all three copies of Camtasia v8. Recommendation, roll back to Camtasia v7.1 the issue does not occur.

It's annoying, they need to release a fix for Camtasia 8 especially considering how expensive the application is. How can you sell software that won't render?

Sure, we can find the files in the "temp" folder, but who wants to spend time seeking out these serialized files? Not us!

I go to render, I render my video in MP4, but then it starts at 0%, waits a second, and then right to 100%! Then it tells me there is no application for this type of video or something like that. When I go into the folder I saved it into, I find a bunch of htmls. When I click them, it brings me to a site that gives me a playback on my video.... but the video I try to render won't save!

I am having the same problem. 30 Mins film. My specs storage and all the usual are fine more than adequate video editing PC purchased yesterday just for editing. It says rendering 0.0% then gives me the screen indicating the project is done. Which happens way too quickly for a file of this size, and then of course I go to the folder and there's nothing in there. Have looked in my temp folder, restarted, re booted, the lot. Keeps doing it. I should have just got Sony Vegas clearly, but my project is stuck in camtasia now, I have done a lot of work on it. Im using Camtasia 8, the newest, downloaded it yesterday.

Project source file come from my video capture software. It's worked fine before I dloaded this latest version of Camtasia come to think of it.

I have used it previously in Camtasia 8 although this was about 3 months ago and had no problems. Ironically that was on a far less powerful PC.

Coming back to Camtasia to use it now, and I'm having this issue which is quite common it seems. I actually like camtasia. Does what I need usually. However not giving me an actual file at the end of my project is not what I need.

Will crack on and find a solution as i cant lose what I've got in there now. Please help Camtasia!

what video capture do you use?

can you view captured video in any viewer?

if so, play video in viewer while capturing again using Camtasia Recorder

use that new capture in a project, edit, then produce to MP4

does that work?

Thanks for your help but have uninstalled camtasia now and have purchased Sony Vegas Pro 10.

Smooth as silk and runs like lightning compared to what I thought was standard on Camtasia. Also, my file is produced and working fine.

The old saying is true. You get what you pay for. Good luck people. I'm moving on.

Produce and share fails for presets and for custom settings. Screen pops up with "Rendering Video 0.0%" and then disappears moments later without creating video. Please advise.

Thanks for bringing this these resources to our attention. I was familiar with Jing, but hadn’t yet used any of the other programs before your post. I had only previously used Camtasia Studio, but after giving Cam Studio a try, good call. It’s a viable cost-effective alternative. Thanks again!
