Need Permission to record screen (but Camtasia already HAS permission)

Since I upgraded to Catalina, I can't record my desktop - when I select "New Recording", the left-most (screen) option has a "Need Permission" message - when I click the "?", a dialog pops up saying "Camtasia was previously denied access to record your screen - To record your screen, you must allow Camtasia to access to screen recording in the System Preferences" When I click "Open Privacy Preferences", "Camtasia 2019.app" DOES have the checkbox selected. I've deselected it and selected it again - still doesn't work. I've even de-installed Camtasia 2019 and re-installed it - same problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

We have seen a couple of cases of this lately; could you open a Tech Support case so we can try some things with you?

That "fix" didn't work for me.  Camtasia is still asking for permissions and they are still checked in privacy.

That fix is not working for me either. I have performed this multiple time.
macOS Catalina v.10.15.1
Camtasia v.2018.0.11 (106565)

This is what a helpful tech person at Techsmith got me to do and it worked.

1.) Close Camtasia and confirm its not running by accessing Activity Monitor. Look for Camtasia in the running list of applications.
2.) Click on your Finder and then click the Go menu at the top. Hold down the Option key on your keyboard and choose the Library item in the Go dropdown. Then go to Preferences.
3.) Locate all com.techsmith.camtasia.plist files and move them over to your trash.
4.) Confirm that com.techsmith.camtasia.plist is no longer in the Preferences folder, then empty your trash.
5.) Restart your computer, then re-launch Camtasia to see if you get the same issues.

frank, did you follow (all) the steps in the article linked to above? I know the restarts and such may seem unnecessary, but they are, due to the way OSX caches your plist entries.

My exact steps
Uninstall camtasia 2018 using CleanmyMac X so all other stuff is un-installed
cold reboot system
Check if camtaisa plist is gone
Fully install camtasia gain
Allow execution (popup)
Allow notifications
New project
Record
THen i see that I need to set permissions
Open privacy settings
Then I see camatasia already is selected
Make sure it is selected by toggle it of and on again.
stopping camtasia
Starting again
But still, i Cannot record and asks for permission (and the tickbox IS set in the system setting)

Very very strange

how annoying, I'm very sorry. This OSX feature is more than frustrating.
Maybe it would be best to give Support a call so they can troubleshoot with you directly?

Me too! This issue is months old. The workaround DOES NOT work. If it cannot be fixed, then please say so. The effort is extraordinarily high and, with all respect, the ROI seems better invested in another vendor?

version 2019.0.7 should fix this issue. However, you may still run into trouble (we believe Apple has some very weird problems with this new security feature they've introduced). So, if you still can't get it working after updating to the latest version, please do contact our Support staff so they can help you out.

So, we're out of luck if we have 2018? It would've been nice to have known before upgrading.

This workaround worked for me with 2018.  Doesn't seem unreasonable for an Apple induced security upgrade to uninstall product and reinstall.  Just a few minutes for me.
