NEEDS TO TOGGLE BETWEEN SCREEN CAPTURE AND WEBCAM CAPTURE, not just PIP webcam.

I like the product. Here's where it's falling short though preventing a sale. It won't let me toggle between screen capture and full screen web cam. Only the little PIP feature. Would like to be able to click the mouse/keyboard and it go from capturing the screen to full screen (or whatever size I pick) webcam input. This is important because you use your proprietary camrec file format. So it becomes a pain if I'm creating/editing webcam video in another program and try to seamlessly and easily integrate it with the screen capture. Seems like a REAL EASY FIX. Would love to hear back from TechSmith once this capability is included. Thanks.

FYI, you can ser Recorder to save as AVI instead of Camrec. Even if saved as camrec, you can always extract the AVI from the camrec.

Re the web cam issue, I do not use one; but can you see web cam in its own window? If so, [just a wild guess] could you maybe pause Recorder when capturing screen, then switch window to see web cam??

I think what Rob is referring to is having the option like Jing does for switching between the webcam and the screen. If not then I am not sure. This would be a nice feature request for the next version of Camtasia Studio for PC. Just my 2 cents worth here.

Thanks Rob; good idea and conversation here.

I'm going to change this to an "Idea" so it's better tracked as a feature request.

Based on my understanding here, I think Kayakman's idea is the best workaround. You'd literally record your webcam as it's displayed on the screen. My hunch is that's very far from what you're hoping for, but I can't think of a better option. This would at least reduce the workload while editing the video.

A lot of our products use webcam and we're interested in learning more about your workflow and what effect you're tying to accomplish. If you are willing to share examples here, that would be great. Or, feel free to email me, and I'll pass them on to the teams: m.curtis@techsmith.com

Thanks for posting,
Mike Curtis

It's not currently possible to toggle between recording the screen and webcam. They are recorded to separate files in the camrec. But after recording, you can edit your project in Studio to have the effect of toggling between the screen recording / webcam video.

If you can capture web cam at same dimension as main video, you can also load the web cam footage file on the PIP track at full [same as main video] dimension; the PIP will completely cover the main video on track 1; then just hide sections of PIP to get the "toggle" effect. I've used that approach many times; no need to fool with Recorder.

I was shown the sexy feature of Jing Pro's ability to toggle between screen capture and webcam with a reflection in the bottom. This would be most useful in my work. It certainly personalizes training or communications when you can see the person explaining things to you.

I now have both Jing and SnagIt 11 neither of which provides this feature and it looks like Jing Pro is no longer available. Recording the webcam as it displays on screeen (per Mike's and even Kayakman's earlier suggestions) doesn't perform well as the audio/video tracking seems off.

As much as I can appreciate longer recording durations, I would prefer to string together a series of 5 minute videos that offer this dynamic capability. Time to splice or piece together multiple recordings or selecting between AVI or Camrec defeats the ease of use factor.

Non-technical executives would love the ability to show their face then show a graph or slide quickly and easily without involving IT staff members or others to help them accomplish a quick dynamic communication.

Needless to say, it is disappointing that this feature was lost along with getting Jing Pro.

I agree with Christopher 10000%. Okay, maybe not that much but pretty close.

The toggle between screen capture and webcam is awesome in Jing. I just showed it to our Support techs for a project they're working on and they LOVED it.

Any chance that SnagIt will be incorporating it prior to the dismantling of Jing? I sure hope so!

Does anyone know if the kind of simple cam- to-screen toggling (mentioned in previous 2 posts) is available with any current version of snag-it, jing or other freeware or affordable software? Would love to find it forWiindows 7 and for Android tablet(August 2012).

I, too, very much miss the Jing Pro feature of switching between webcam and the Desktop screen capture with a seamless, and sexy, dissolve. My viewers miss it too. :-) Please bring it to SnagIt.

Actually, I downloaded Camtasia thinking such a logical feature would surely be available in the flag-ship product. Instead a bunch of non-sense complexity that serves for nothing. Is it that hard to understand that we want to switch from a webcam image to the actual presentation we are giving with ease!?

I can't believe that Techsmith is unresponsive to their customers, especially since so many people miss Jing Pro. What is their problem?

I'm new to Camtasia. Can someone give me a tip about how to edit a recording to switch between full size screen recording and full size web cam? I know how to do PIP, but I'd like to be able to switch back and forth. Thanks!

Chris as far as I know that feature has not been implemented in Camtasia Studio as of yet. The only thing I can suggest is when editing your video is to make the PIP or separate webcam video full size on the canvas and manually switch the screen recorded video back and forth to the webcam video. I know that is not as convenient and I still feel this is something they should consider implementing into Camtasia Studio to have the ability to accomplish without a lot of editing required.

I know and miss Jing Pro as it did have that feature and it was nice to use. I know this suggestion probably does not help much but it is the only way I know to do it. Maybe a TechSmith Employee will jump in here and make it a feature request and shed some light on what they are doing on this suggestion from everyone. Thanks for posting.
