Never-ending crashes! What is going on?

I have had nothing but problems with Camtasia. I've had only 1 project (out of about 10) that I was able to complete without it crashing on me. And all I'm doing is putting up one 40 minute webinar from gotomeeting.com and adding an intro and closing slide. I run all other Adobe files with tons of data associated and have no problems. Does anyone else have problems or know what I can do to help? This software is not cheap and so far hasn't at all been worth it. I'm headed back to using imovie on my personal computer for free.

No crashes here with 150+ recent projects; what is the file format from GoToMeeting, probably wmv or ?

MP4 file. And I'm doing nothing with them except trimming off the beginning and end and adding a quick title slide (btw, are there no title slides? Do I really have to do this in another program or use the call out?)

As far as the crashes it may take tech support to straighten it out, if you can tell us operating system, amount of RAM memory, version of Camtasia it may help other members point something out.

In Camtasia - click on Library and scroll down below Themes and there is Title Clips - Simple in various colors.

I'm working from Windows 10 (but was in an older version and still had some issues), working from Version 8.6.0, 3.40 GB RAM. I do using other software, such as InDesign and Photoshop that uses file sizes considerably larger than what I'm working with in Camtasia. I've contacted Tech Support in the past and was basically told it's probably just my computer. But for some reason it's only Camtasia? The file I'm using in Camtasia are 44KB and under.

The 3.40 GHz is processor speed; RAM is likely 2GB, 4GB, etc. If you hold down the Windows key (between Ctrl & Alt keys) + Pause/Break - look at Installed Memory (RAM) for the right answer. It will be expressed as 4.00GB for example. (more memory the better for video work)

If the G2M "file" is 40 min as MP4 it would have to be at least a few GB in size one would think.

None of the machines here are WIN 10 yet so I cannot comment on that. There is something about your environment (WIN 10, memory) or file that is causing the issue. Do you have another MP4 file (smaller perhaps) you could test with?

Usually crashes reported occur because the user has done tons of editing and the XML file for the project gets overloaded. Since you say you're just adding opening and close to a single file, that would not apply.

Yeah, it is 3.40GB. (the processor is 3.00GHz). The file size says it's 44KB. The duration is 1 hour and 4 minutes. The others were about the same size. ?? Yeah, actually. The size of the Camtasia files are all at about 30-60KB, but the MP4 files before and after I've exported (after many crashes) are all about 80,000-120,000KB. Whatever that means? But that includes the ones that made it through for final exporting?

to add to what Timbre4 and tech support have said ...

if indeed you only have 3.4 GB of RAM, that is definitely not enough to work with

the Camtasia files sizes you are referring to sound like the camproj file sizes; that is just an XML file that holds the edited description info for your project, not the project source files themselves

in my experience, 8 GB RAM is a minimum practical requirement for successful Camtasia editing and production

open Task Manager and see how much memory Camtasia is using during editing and production

when process memory approaches 2 GB, crashes are likely to occur

you could try working with shorter source files, and maybe make segments of your project, to see if you can workaround the crashes

but, based on what you've described, boosting your RAM to 8 GB would be a better option

I'm sorry to hear you've had so much trouble. :/

GoToMeeting has their own recording format.  An hour of audio and video is going to be a lot more than 44KB.  Even 44MB would be on the small side for an hour long recording.  This suggests to me that this MP4 file may be referencing other files where the actual audio and video data is stored.

Can you tell us more about how you're saving/converting the G2M recording before importing into Camtasia Studio?  Are you able to post a sample file that doesn't work in Camtasia?
