I downloaded the trial version and was blown away. Brilliant. Received a promotion email from Techsmith. BUY Camtasia for 169 Dollars. Great. Clicked on the link. Brought to a another page. Buy Camtasia. Clicked on the icon. Add Camtasia to cart for 244 euros. I am located in Germany. So I can have to pay for Camtasia 298 Dollars for living in Germany. A huge difference. What could account for the extra cost. Its not shipping as its a download. WHY am I being ripped off?

Part of the reason will be VAT.

In America no advertised price is the price you actually pay.  It's not until you reach the till that Sales Tax is added and you learn what the final price is.  It's a bizarre way of doing business that Americans are habituated to, and which make headline prices seem lower than they are.  And American companies extend that cue little local practice into countries where it doesn't work like that, and they do it because it enables them to con people into thinking that a product is better value than it actually is.  It's a practice that's borderline illegal but that doesn't seem to worry them.  Remember, "America First"

The rest of the reason is that they are using marketplace pricing which is a another way of saying we sell it for more because we can get away with it. AKA a rip off

Hi Mike,

I'm not in the loop on most of the promotions we do here, but my first thought is that there might be a coupon code in the email you need to apply to your cart to get the discount. If not, something else probably went wrong.

I'm following up with some other staff members around here to see what's up, but basically it sounds like you saw the regular rate for Camtasia and not the discounted price in the email you received.

I'll post back here when I found out more. It's also possible that someone will reach out to you directly.

In any case, sorry for the poor experience,
Glenn

I spoke with the person in charge of our store/promotions. She said that $169 is our education pricing. What we've seen before is other vendors or websites will advertise our educational price rather than our commercial price of $249.

If you do qualify for educational pricing you can purchase for $169. This page explains our requirements to qualify for educational pricing.

I hope this helps,
Glenn
