Hello, I’m looking at buying a “new” computer to create overhead educational videos with a whiteboard. I will also use screencasts (PowerPoint etc.). I’m looking at buying a refurbished ThinkCentre M900 with an i7 3.4ghz cpu, 32gb ram, 1tb SSD and an Intel hd 530 gpu. Would this work well with Camtasia 2020? I was also looking at the PowerSpec G706 from MicroCenter but I’m on a budget. Am I better of with a ThinkCentre SFF or ThinkStation SFF?

For reference, here is a link to the minimum and recommended system requirements for the new Camtasia 2020: https://www.techsmith.com/camtasia-system-requirements.html I hope these help you with your purchase decision.

Hi John, it doesn't sound like you need balls-to-the-wall performance, but may I ask what your budget is?

The reason I ask is, like you, I was in the market for a new computer this March. The helpful folks at MicroCenter helped me put together a PC through their Build Your Own department that was a better deal than if I had trying to build a pre-built computer with those parts.

The CPU, RAM and SSD doesn't sound too bad. If I had to guess, the reason the GPU isn't listed as a minimum requirement is that its presence isn't required for the act of encoding (rendering) or decoding (playback).

I wish you the best of luck in this journey.

The ThinkCentre you mention above has the Intel hd 530 gpu, which is an integrated gpu, borrowing the CPU RAM. An integrated gpu will suffice. The recommended option is an NVIDIA GeForce 10 Series or higher, which is a discrete gpu, having its own memory.

Thanks, I've been trying to see what discrete gpu would work with the M900. It seems like the NVIDIA GeForce GT 720 what most people have been able to expand to.

I would be concerned with an integrated GPU. Definitely go for a discrete GPU.

@paulwilliamengle My budget is $600 but if there's a good deal out there, I'll stretch it to $700 - $750. I'm wondering if the NVIDIA GeForce GT 720 or something equivalent is going to work with Camtasia 2020 so  I don't have to worry about upgrading my desktop in a year or two. Otherwise, another option is an eternal graphics card if they are worth getting.
