We are aware that you will experience issues when trying to use Jing, Snagit, Camtasia, and Camtasia Relay on a new MacBook Pro with Retina display. Our teams are investigating those issues right now and are working on fixes. We will update this post when we have more information.

As a workaround, if you use an external monitor you can still use our tools without any issues.

Update for Camtasia for Mac (Sept 18): "Today we released Camtasia for Mac 2.2.1, which has been optimized for capturing and editing on the Retina display. Use the Check for Updates option in the Camtasia 2 menu to download the latest version."

Update on Snagit for Mac (Sept 11): "Today we released Snagit for Mac 2.1.2. Snagit 2.1.2 has been optimized for capturing and editing on the Retina display. Snagit 2.1.2 is currently only available to non-AppStore customers. It will be available to AppStore customers as soon as it is approved by Apple."

Hi everyone, it looks like capturing still images works great but i still see a magnification when capturing video. Certainly not as bad as it was but still not 1 for 1 on the ratio. Anyone else experiencing this issue?
thanks,

The issue is still not 100% resolved with the latest update. When I copy and paste an image from the Snagit editor to iMail the image is still 2-3x the size.

Sean,

Snagit takes advantage of the Retina Display and displays your captures at its full pixel resolution. Unfortunately, some applications, such as Mail, do not do the same. This means that images will appear at twice the size in Mail than it does in Snagit. Keep in mind that the actual pixel size of the image never changes. The difference is how applications are displaying the image.

Hi Rick,

I downloaded competitor's application from the Mac App Store called 'Skitch'. When I take screenprints using 'Skitch' and copy/paste the screenprints to mail it does not increase the size and copies the screenprint as expected. If 'Skitch' can do it then I assume it's possible for SnagIt to do the same?

Thanks,
Sean

Sean,

what you say about Skitch is not true. I tried it as well and it does the same as Snagit. It captures the actual pixels. The result of a copy and paste depends on the other programms behaviour.

The irritating thing with Skitch is that it resizes the image on the fly if you resize the window. In fact it shows the captured image 2x enlagred in the capture window, as Snagit did before. But the tricky resize feature allows you to quickly adjust.

Olaf and Novalis,

The issue I have with SnagIT is if I resize the image in SnagIT and then copy to mail or any other program then the image is still huge. If I resize the image in Skitch then the image is normal size or the same size as it appears in Skitch.

SnagIT should copy the image into another program the same way as Skitch.

I use bootcamp to run Windows on a Retina display mac book pro. Have you updated the Windows version of Camtasia to work with Retina displays?

I just updated to Camtasia 2.2.1 for mac a couple minutes ago and now the video stops recording the screen after about one and a half minutes. The audio continues to record but the video stops. I was working on a project when the update popup came up so I updated and now can't get it to work properly.

And sometimes the videos just have vertical lines. I am using an iMac

Frustrated.... thanks for any help.

to me the problem is still not fixed even using an external monitor to make the display non retina.

The font text jumps up in size sometimes by 4x the original size for no reason at all, so i have to reduce it and then it goes to tiny impossible to read size.

Secondly and probably the most annoying bug i've experienced are these auto spell correction tooltips that appear all over the screen and they don't go away.

i can't figure out how to a) - make them stop appearing and b)- go away as they stay forever and while they don't show up in the final outputted png, they do visually hinder my compiling and editing of a screen shot which is incredibly time consuming to work around it.

Unfortunately i can't take a screenshot of snagit editor to show you but here is a screen cast https://webtalk.viewscreencasts.com/2...

thanks so much
