I was hopeful that the new version of Camtasia would allow me to import and edit video clips recorded from my Sony Handycam DCR-SX40. Alas, this is not so. It seems to me, that from my perspective, a video clip is a video clip is a video clip. I don't want to see the message "MPEG-2 Files are not Supported in Camtasia Studio." Are you not a company that allows editing of video clips or not?

Hi Joe,

Unfortunately, Camtasia does not support MPEG-2 files. For a complete list of files and codecs that Camtasia supports, please check this out: https://support.techsmith.com/entries/22823787-Camtasia-Studio-Formats-that-can-be-imported-to-Camta...

There are a variety of reasons why any codec is or is not included in Camtasia, some of them technical, some of them legal, and some of them because they aren't widely enough used. I'm sorry for the inconvenience this may cause. I'm curious, do you really have 50 MPEG-2 files that need converting, or were you just posing that as a possible problem? If you only have a few MPEG-2's  that need conversion, I agree that Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/) is an excellent conversion tool.

All my best,
