If I have a video at 1280x1040, how do I make my area 800x640 and just concentrate on a part of the video?

Follow up - I want to keep the other area so I can "zoom in" by starting with a larger portion of the screen, then going to my normal 800x640 for the remainder of the film. Is this possible? Recommended?

You can change the size of your video on the canvas by grabbing the edges with your mouse to make them bigger/smaller.  You can also change the size (dimensions) of your video area.  Anytime in the video you can zoom in or out on your video as well by using the "zoom-n-pan" option, or you can use the Visual Properties.
