Hi folks,

Having had a long running thread: Newbie General Questions For Camtasia 8 on Windows 7 PC (help?) at https://feedback.techsmith.com/techsmith/topics/newbie-general-questions-for-camtasia-8-on-windows-7... , it was suggested that I open a new/follow-up discussion relating to the same topic.

This will include CAMTASIA 8 running on either DELL PC Win_7 or Win_8.1, CUBASE ARTIST (DAW), SENNHEISER PC 36 mic/headset, LOGITECH 720 HD, and there is a STEINBERG CI2+ external soundcard (for CUBASE).

I will continue the conversation from where I left off if you don't mind.  As well as adding a new question as of yesterday.

Many thanks in advance.

Best,

Paul David Seaman (UK)

Paul here is a link for you to check out the difference in what a Dynamic Mic over a Condenser Mic is and how they work. When it comes to Mic's I have quite a few different ones and some I like and the others I do not as I like a Dynamic Mic for getting what I consider a more bass sound and Condensers are known for picking up background sounds but honestly any mic can do that as it depends on the recording area and what noises are in the background. Anyway just do a little research as I think we all have our own opinions and preferences to what is the best of the best.

Hope this helps a little and you find it useful. Have a great day/night.

Ta Fred,

I will check out the LINK you kindly included.

A friend suggested I consider a WIRELESS lapel-mic as it will enable me to be considerable more mobile (plus one less lead to worry about!)

Here is a model which popped up during an initial search (albeit quite possibly a bottom of the range model):

Hi again,

Here is the reply I received from TOSHIBA this morning:
Dear Mr. Seaman,

Toshiba Reference Number:         CAMILEO X400
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank you for your recent reply.

Regrettably we do not stock or sell microphones that are for your camcorder model which means that you would need to refer to a camera specialist shop which would be able to assist you further for a compatible external microphone for your camcorder. We apologise for the inconvenience.

If you require any further assistance please call us on the number below or simply reply to this email.

Hi,

Slight change of topic here guys:

Is it possible to CHANGE the COLOUR of the TITLE PAGES in Camtasia_8 please?  For instance, in the screenshot (below), could I make the COLOUR of the image (in the top right window) BLUE?

I ask because in the VISUAL EFFECTS (top left) there are 4 x check-boxes (albeit they are greyed out).  I looked through my manual but could not see a specific answer to this question.

Thanks a lot,

Paul

If you right click on the Animated Title and "Ungroup" it.

You can select each track and apply effects. After making the changes you desire, you can  reselect all the tracks. Right Click and group them. Then apply animations to fade the title in and out if you wish.

Regards, Joe

Thanks JM,

I will give this a try.  It was not really mentioned in any of the (10 or so) TechSmith TUTORIALS.

Hello again,

I have been messing with CAMTASIA this week. I was trying to choose the background drops for any new music video demo's I make (ie these will just be soundtrack ones). I have whittled down the CAMTASIA library to just 5/6 and made a quick demo of them. Obviously the NAME on the SONG would go where the text (currently) says: "Enter text here". I will UPLOAD the LINK shortly (to My_Drive).

It would be good to get a few opinions from everyone here!

Ta,

Paul

Hello,

Ok, here is a LINK (below) to the edited CAMTASIA backdrop's.

I have managed to enter TEXT now (thanks a lot Joe!) by 'UNGROUPING'.

They are (apart from just one) in pairs: the first (in motion) being where the song/composer text is, and the second (still) being where my name/email/phone is.

Please see video UPLOAD (these are now also in order of preference):

I am really new to this still, so thanks for bearing with me as it is all a bit daunting (to say the least!).

Cheers guys,

Paul

Hi Joe,

Is it REMOVE COLOUR to CHANGE the COLOUR please (within VISUAL PROPERTIES)?

I did not really understand this in the booklet I am afraid.

If I can get to do a few basic things then I would be really happy  ;-)

Ta,

Paul

<EDIT: sorted it, it's COLOURIZE. But I still think you need to REMOVE what was first there? Think I need to take a break . . . cheers!>

Paul if you are trying to change the color of the Orangish Red on that Title Clip Video then I am not sure it is completely possible in Camtasia Studio. I have played around with it a little bit but could not get the colors changed to the Blue as if you remove the color it goes based on the color you pick. When using the Colorize it will give somewhat of a blue tint to the image. So, I am not sure if it can be changed to a liking you may want to use. It is hard when it comes to multi colored objects in a video. Just my opinion. I could do more experimenting but time is not allowing me to right now.

If you get it figured out post it back here on how you got that task completed. Or if Joe has a solution or video on how he does it I would like to see that one too.

Thanks for posting and I hope this helps a little and you like the information from what I could do when trying and have a great day/night.

I agree with Fred.
It would be more accurate to call it "Tint" because you are applying a tint to the existing color/colors.
Like mixing Red and Blue. You end up with a off Purple.
Video Blocks has a free trial with a lot of decent Full HD backgrounds you may want to check out. Royalty Free Motion Backgrounds
https://www.videoblocks.com/videos/motion-backgrounds

Just add a first class background to the timeline and use a callout to place a title over it. Or use one of the title tracks that come with Camtasia's titles.

Thanks Joe,

Do you have to pay/join this site to use them?

And I can add my OWN TEXT (like in the demo video I made earlier)?

Do you think these are BETTER than the CAMTASIA THEMES please? And do a lot of people use this site (or similar ones) to add VISUAL CONTENT to their own videos?

Cheers,

Paul

You need a credit card to join but it's still free. You used to get 20 videos a day to download. The last person I know to use it got 7 videos a day  "I think". But there's a lot to choose from.
Some of them look pretty awesome. Can't go wrong for free.
I don't know how many people use their content? But I've downloaded a lot of video from them and don't see other people using it. "Almost Never see it anyway "
Just hover your cursor over those videos. They will buffer for a bit and play so you can see them playing. You could even get some nice musical themed backgrounds.Just make sure you get HD backgrounds. They are marked if they are "Full HD"/1080p or even 4K.

A Camtasia Text callout is all you need to place a title over any video.

Hi Fred,

Well that's what I thought/found as I tried to make these COLOUR changes last night for a couple of hours with the manual, but could not do so to any satisfaction.  As you say, maybe it just adds a hint/hue to the ORIGINAL colour so that you would end up with a (say): brownish-red, greenish-red, blueish-red, etc?

But take a quick look at this You Tube video if you might:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMDOPjTyM3k

I searched high and low for an answer.  This one does NOT use a CAMTASIA LIBRARY THEME though, but rather an IMPORTED one.

Best,

Paul

Hi Joe,

Ok, I will have another look at the site.

But do you think it is SAFE that they ask for your credit card details?  And if the site is FREE, then why do you think they request these details please?

Cheers,

Paul

I used them about 4 years ago for the first time. I was skeptical as well. But nothing nefarious ever happened with the credit card info.

Maybe that's their way preventing people from signing up using different names and downloading a lot of videos for free?

Just shop the pages a lot before you hit download. Some are old and so the resolution is not 1080p. There are hundreds of videos to look through. If you click on a videos thumbnail, a larger window will open giving you a better look at them. It will also give you links to the downloads and available resolutions. The .MOV files are much larger than the MP4 downloads. But the MOV files will look better in your final production.

JM,

"Nefarious": now that's a new bit of lingo for me!  I have heard of "Nosferatu" though!  ;-)

I have been so busy this weekend but I will have a look at the site tomorrow, thanks.

So I need to stick with the 1080p range then?  Is this what the .MOV files are?  Or is that something different all together please?

I think in order to process a transaction on a customers credit card, the retailer would need to have the 3 DIGIT CODE (on the rear)?

Paul

Both .mov files and the .mp4 files are offered at 1080p. Provided that the video is offered at that quality level.

However, the .mov files have much larger file sizes. These are the ones you want. Why?
In a nut shell, you will be creating videos and re-rendering these files. They will look sharper and retain their original color much better than the smaller mp4 videos are capable of.

I haven't used the term nefarious in a while but the definition is in the image below. LOL

JM,

Ok cheers, I will go for the .MOV files then.

I think some of the downloads are free on the site, and others are to be paid for.  Not sure why this is so?  Are some better than others in this regard please?

I mean, if someone gives them away for FREE, then what are they getting out of it?!

Cheers,

Paul

I haven't used the site in a very long time. I don't even know what's being offered for free.

If you can download something free that looks good to you, fits your purpose.  Use it.

That's what's great about video editing. You create what you envision to the best of your ability. Skills only improve through trial and error. Odds are, you will learn a lot pretty fast.

Cheers Joe,

Well I am selling now my Win_7 and so I have UNINSTALLED all of my software (and REFORMATTED using the DELL OS CD).  So I won't be able to test out the VIDEO BLOCK files within CAMTASIA until I get my new DESKTOP PC next month.

But I am enjoying having a good look through the library on their website.

Hi guys,

Happy 2016!

I hope you are all keeping ok etc.

I have been very busy with one thing and another for the past 6 x months.  I have UPGRADED my Win_8.1 Dell PC to Win_10 now.  And just installed Camtasia and Snag-it on it.  Seems to be working ok.

Harping back to my most recent question on 1080HD, my situation is this please:

I recorded a piece of piano music and imported the Audio File into Camtasia.  Then I created a (very basic) background of a still blue and black text backdrop.  So nothing fancy as it's more about the music!  Anyway, I PRODUCE & SHARE at 1080HD but when I upload it to You Tube, it will only appear as 720HD (and the text looks a bit fuzzy).  I am going to try (as Joe suggested) PRODUCE & SHARING as a MOV file but I am not sure if this will solve the issue?  Either I am not Saving/Rendering it correctly or else You Tube won't accept it as a 1080HD and is knocking it down all the time?  I have tried three times now and on two different PC's.

Many thanks in advance . . .

Paul Seaman

Try this option instead. See Image.
I'm not sure what I suggested rendering to .mov for but you don't want to do it with a you tube video. The file will be to large and you tube will change it into a mp4 video anyway.

Thanks Joe,

I did not know that You Tube had an upper limit on the file sizes?  And that You Tube would convert it otherwise.

Cheers,

Paul

Make sure that your editing dimensions are set to the same resolution of your video or recording.
You tube has a upper limit size that includes 4k video. I believe your video was produced below 1080p and that's the problem. As long as you are working with 1080p footage you should be in good shape.

Joe,

Its only a 3 x mins video but its taking about 20 x mins to render!

Hi Joe,

Yes, the issue was within Camtasia thanks.  So I changed the DIMENSIONS accordingly.

I UPLOADED it to You Tube and it seems to take a couple of minutes before it becomes a HD version?

The video is PRIVATE at the moment, but on Friday I will list it and post a LINK.

Cheers,

Paul

Cool man, sounds good.
I can bang a couple of pans together and make some noise but that's the extent of musical  talent. I'm destined to a life of listening.
The Grateful Dead's "In the Dark" album is a serious collection of instrumental talent. I prefer high energy  intensity music for the most part, Electric Light Orchestra and the like.  Duffy, Amy Winehouse and  Imelda May just for starters.  The list could go on and on.
It's good to see you getting a handle on  Camtasia.

Cheers Joe,

I really appreciate your kind words.

The piece took 6 x WEEKS to play/record and then about another month on the MIXING!  But I am still learning CUBASE, as I am CAMTASIA.

The trouble is that I have so many ideas and things I want to do, but it all takes time, energy and commitment.  Plus I am a really slow learner!

I will check out The Grateful Dead album cheers.  Though I tend to go for SYNTH bands as opposed to GUITAR based ones.

Best,

Paul

Hi,

It was nothing like I expected! lol

I thought it was dark heavy loud out-of-tune rock.  But it was very tuneful and well produced  ;-)

btw - They are horror author Steven King's band!
