Newbie General Questions For Camtasia 8 on Windows 7 PC (help?)

Hi folks,

I have been meaning to post a thread here recently but I have been tied up trying to resolve a separate matter with Camtasia 8 (and AUDIO) under a separate post.

I purchased Camtasia (and Snag-It) last month and have been trying to work thru the online tutorials.  I also ran some searches over the past couple of days to look for answers to my first couple of questions (below) but either they were relating to a slightly different scenario, or the computer and/or version of Camtasia differed to my own.

Thank,

Paul David Seaman

Hi,

So firstly, there is a library of TITLE PAGES within Camtasia 8 and (it appears) also within Snag-It Stamps (which I purchased on Monday last) which can be IMPORTED 1 x folder at a time.

However, I can not remember the exact total amount but I would guess it comes to around 20 or so (that I was able to locate).  Is this correct as I thought there may have been more?  I have found a couple (of TITLE PAGES) that I could use (as they are) but I wondered if people obtained extra TITLE PAGES from another source to bump up their collection?  Or do most people create their own from scratch (or at least by heavily editing the default/included Camtasia library?).

Thanks,

Paul

Hi,

Secondly, I have an external LOGITEK WEBCAM (which I connect to my Windows 7 PC) and use for SKYPE etc.  I prefer to use this device rather than the in-built one because I am able to use it like a quasi-video-camera and pan around (say) my music room if I am on SKYPE to musician friends.

Because the videos I intend to create are going to be of a 'musical' nature, I wanted to be able to do exactly the same thing again with the webcam during a Camtasia project.

But when I plug in the LOGITEK, Camtasia does not seem to pick it up?  I click on WEBCAM and my in-built Windows 7 one activates, and in the drop-down-menu, the Windows 7 device is the only option that I am offered?  The LOGITEK just does not seem to ever appear as an option?

I can provide a SCREENSHOT tomorrow if that will help?

Thanks in advance . . .

Paul

Hi there

Have you tried connecting the camera before you launch Camtasia?

Ta Rick,

From memory, I think I plugged the LOGITEK in whilst Camtasia was already open.

But I will try again tomorrow just to be sure thanks.

One question is does your Logitech Video Camera show up in your Device Manager Window in Windows 7 ? If it does I would try Rick's suggestion and if that does not work what I have done when using my Logitech was to disable the onboard webcam and then tried to just use the Logitech only. It worked for me so this is just a suggestion for you to also try. Thanks for posting and I hope this helps a little. Have a great day/night.

Hi Fred,

Appreciate you time and advice.

I went the full trip like you advised and DISABLED the onboard webcam.  Then plugged in the LOGITECH and fired up CAMTASIA.  This time the LOGITECH was recognized as a connected DEVICE.

I had to then mess around for some time until I was evident that the best way forward was to DISABLE the CONDENSOR MIC on the LOGITECH, and instead, ENABLE my (£20) headset USB SENNHEISER MIC for narration.  The sound quality is fairly acceptable, however, I intend to invest in something more dedicated if it looks as though I can justify such a purchase later on down the line.

Kind regards,

Paul

In PNG 1, the RECORD AUDIO check box should NOT be ticked.  I just realized I took the screenshot before I unchecked it.  This DISABLES the WEBCAM mic.

Hi again,

A couple of things I am not sure about please are:

In PNG 2, when I am prompted to SAVE, the ONLY option is WMV (Windows Media Video File).  Is this correct or should there be other alternatives showing also?

In this quick video I made with the webcam (LINK below), is the SIZE (of the video screen) ok?  Or does it need to be bigger?  It seems smaller than a non-webcam video and also has a large border.  Although I am not too bothered and I dare say that this is how webcam shoots might appear?  There were options for SIZE but I went along with the DEFAULT (being 720HD and whatever the DIMENSIONS were).

Thanks a lot guys,

Paul

Hi Paul

I believe that's normal and expected behavior if all you are doing is recording via WebCam. I have seldom attempted this so just tested to see how it behaved on my own setup and I too only have WMV as an option.

As for the sizing, did you try clicking the Format... button and choose a larger size?

Cheers... Rick :)

Thanks for replying again Rick,

Ok, I can live with WMV.  I can eliminate it off my list of 'to solves' now!

No, I did not experiment at all with the SIZES you mention.  But I will try and have another bash with it later on if I get the chance . . .

Paul

Hello Rick,

I tested out your method:

PNG_1, I chose the MAXIMUM dimensions.

PNG_2, when SAVED and then PLAYED, the webcam footage was still in the small window size, with large border.

PNG_3, You do have the option to view in FULL SCREEN mode though.

But if the end results are always the same, then I am not sure why you are given the choice all of those OUTPUT SIZES (as in PNG_1)?

Cheers,

Paul

When I use those options for my Logitech Webcam and set it too 1920x1280 I get the same results with it not showing in the preview window at the size I chose. Not sure if it will not preview in the size recorded why they offer those options to adjust the sizes.

I am hoping there is a solution to this as I too use the WMV and then when I preview the video I can go to full screen and it looks good. But it would be nice when setting the Stream Format Option to the Output Size of the 1920x1280 I used if it would also preview in the Preview Window at that size. Just my 2 cents worth and input and I hope it helps a little. I have had this issue for quite sometime now and would hope it is being looked into by the TechSmith Team. Thanks for posting and have a great day/night.

Thanks Fred again,

Well I am not pleased that this is an issue obviously, but I am kind of relieved that I am not on my own here! As I say, I have achieved next to nothing in over a week of installing Camtasia due to me trying to iron out or find workarounds to these quirks.

So shall I just continue as I am doing with the webcam format sizing? And leave it as it is?

Ta,

Paul

Your welcome Paul and I am glad my input helped answer some of the issues we are having. I hope they get this fixed or give a solution and if it does not work with changing in the dropdown then it is a pointless option in my opinion. Have a great night/day Paul. I just do the work a round with it for now until it gets fixed. More time consuming in my book but what else can we do for now.

Hi Fred,

Ok, I will put this one to bed for now then.

Did you have any thoughts/advice please on my very first question regarding the library of TITLE PAGES in Camtasia?

Thanks,

Paul

Paul, I know you addressed this question to Fred, so hopefully both you and Fred won't mind my chipping in here.

Camtasia has some themes that offer more variety. And TechSmith has a page (I'll link it below) where you can go grab more themes. Not sure about your own version, but my own version of Camtasia has a link baked right into the product that takes me there.

Click here to view the page

Cheers... Rick :)

Hello Rick,

No need to concern yourself with to whom to original question was addressed to.  I am grateful for any support!

Ok, I see now thanks.  You mean the GET MORE MEDIA TAB?  There are more in the LINK you kindly provided than in my CAMTASIA library.  There are some duplicates but I will download all of the others cheers.

I did purchase STAMPS last week, but it seems to be more geared towards SNAG-IT.

Rick thanks for jumping in and I am glad it helped answer Paul's question. I was going to answer this in about the same way but I am glad we all worked together to get the questions answered as that is what this user to user community is all about in my opinion. Helping each other to the best of our knowledge. Have a great day/night and Paul if you have more questions feel free to post away.

Cheers Fred,

So would you say that most people use these default TITLES PAGES simply as they are?  Or do they create their OWN (ie from scratch, or by much modification)?

Much appreciated.

Paul

Paul I think most would probably just use the stock ones and the extras you can download from TechSmith. I have been known to make my own and also use the stock ones with some slight basic text modifications. Below is a link that I think you will enjoy as it shows and tells more about how to make your own and is a PDF Format so it can be downloaded. I hope you like and enjoy this resource I have provided made by TechSmith.

Have a great day Pay and let us know if this helps. Thanks again for posting and have a great day/night.

Cheers Fred,

I have downloaded it.  Looks like it is around 40 x pages long.  Do you think it will ALL be beneficial to me and will answer my basic questions and needs please?

Also, do you have any of your OWN videos on You Tube where you have made TITLE PAGES for the movie?

Ta,

Paul

Paul I think it could be beneficial to you if that is what you are wanting to do. No currently I do not have any videos of the ones I made. It was awhile back and I have been taking care of some of my health issues so I have been a little inactive lately but plan to get back in the game soon.

Paul just wanted to say thanks for posting back your questions and responses. It is nice to see more interactivity when we make suggestions and the person posts back so we know what they would like and to see if it has worked for them or not. It is the only way we know is when others do post back. Just wanted to throw that in there and give you a shoutout and others who do the same.

Hi Rick,

I downloaded the extra THEMES from the LINK thanks.  I think I counted around 44 in total!

They are all (still ZIPPED) in a folder in My_Downloads.

Do I just UNZIP each one and simply follow the DEFAULT prompts (as regards to LOCATIONS etc) please?

Best,

Paul

Paul I am not rick of course but I would say yes that is what you need to do and if there are any that go into the Library that you do not like or would use you can always remove them from the Library. Hope this helps a little more to answer your question and I am sure Rick will have some suggestions too.
