I have Snagit and I upgraded to Mac OS 10.12.4 - when I launch Snagit, I can't see the menu bar - it's not on the side, nor is there an icon on the upper left.  Even when I go to preferences click that I want it shown, nothing happens.  Help.  chess613@icloud.com

Just confirming existence of this problem; after updating OS X yesterday to 10.12.4, QuickCapture is gone. Reinstalling SnagIt doesn't help, and when checking User accounts, the startup item is gone as well. I have not yet found a solution.

Thanks for sharing your screenshots. I have a different experience (attached). When I start my Mac, the sidebar capture button will not load, and I can't get it to load even after launching the application. Further, as shown in the screenshot, clicking on the Capture button does nothing, either. While I can launch SnagIt, I cannot use it unless I use the Mac OS screen capture keyboard shortcuts and then import it into SnagIt. This all happened after I downloaded the newest version of SnagIt under Mac OS 10.12.4.

What you haven't done is customized the menu.
  1. Move mouse pointer into blank section the menu bar and option click (or right click if using a mouse)
  2. Choose customize Menu
  3. From window that open ad components to you hearts content.  I am including a Partial screenshot of what shows up as the the full widow goes full legth of you computer screen.

I can confirm that after the latest upgrade of OS X to Sierra 10.12.4 the Capture slider does not show up and it is not possible to work with Snagit. christian.mueller@rwmgroup.de

Hi Christian,

Some users have had been able to resolve this by disabling the "Share anonymous usage data" setting in the Snagit editor and then rebooting their computer. We are working on an official fix.

Hi all;

To confirm, you are all running Snagit 4 on Mac OS X 10.12.4? The reason I ask is because Snagit for Mac 3 is not supported/compatible with any operating systems beyond Mac OS X 10.11 "El Capitan"

So are there any plans to fix this for customers whom have purchased Snagit for Mac 3 or offer a reasonable fee for upgrading to the latest version?

Hi,

We don't have plans to support version 3, although upgrades to the latest version are half off, so $25 for a single license. More information here: https://www.techsmith.com/snagit-upgrade.html

So those of us that purchased Snagit 3 less than a year ago are *expletive* unless we pay to upgrade to the latest version?  Sorry to be blunt, but that is bullshit that past versions don't receive patches for a specified period of time.

I like your product but based on this policy I can't see myself upgrading, as I'm sure I'll run into the same problem again next year and be forced to pay for upgrades once again.

Totally agree Peter.
It is phrased here as if it is the fault of the operating system.

But when you buy a fixed license, you expect longer than a few months for it to work with the latest version of osx.

I don't recall receiving an email to tell me my snagit would "break" either when my os updated.

Surprise!!!!!!!

Hey folks,

For those of you seeing issues with Snagit version 4, you are likely experiencing a crash in the data collection library. To fix this, open editor preferences and disable "Send anonymous usage information". You may have to restart snagit after changing this setting. We are working on an official fix, but this should get things back up and running for the time being.

Luke, just tried this workaround including restarting the app, but had no success.

Macbook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Retina)
Mac OS X 10.12.4
Snagit 4.1.2 (78099)

Symptoms as above.  No capture window, no menu bar icon.  Unable to capture via hotkeys even after resetting hotkeys.

This is still broken in 4.1.7 - meaning I had to disable anonymous usage data for my menubar to show up on Mac 10.13
