No option to cancel screen capture!

I used to have an "X" to cancel the screen capture, but now it goes directly to my snagit edit and I have no idea how to stop screen captures.  Tried preferences, but nothing I clicked on changes it back to that option to cancel capture.

Can anyone help?

Thanks Rick, didn't know that would do it, but I did like the option at the bottom of a capture that had the "X" to cancel the scan. Do you have any idea where to set the preference for it to restore it?

Thanks again!

Here's a smile for you all! I seem to be a connoisseur of screenshot apps. I currently have at least a dozen and there are at least that many that have gone into history. Well, every danged one of them allowed the Escape key to stop the show. Here's the smile: I am so used to Escape that I never even noticed that "X" -- prime example of muscle memory!

Ok, for those that would use my question to make levity out out of it, I feel for you that you have nothing else to do but make fun.

Now, about my issue with the "X" cancel option. My problem was not fully stated in my first post and I can't go in and edit it. So, here is the rest of the story. I not only do not get an option to cancel the screen capture, but the capture immediately goes to the Snagit edit program. I don't even have control of my capture other than deleting and starting again. So, if anyone knows how to set preferences that will return my previous options and wont send my capture to my Snagit edit page, I'd appreciate it, but if your goal is to poke fun at serious questions, please limit your reply to silent gestures, no one needs a grown up acting like a child to answer questions in this forum.

Heya Tony

I'm not sure anyone was poking fun at you. I know whatever I replied with was certainly not intended that way. Apologies if you felt it was.

I had no clue your issue wasn't resolved. (note that I'm not an actual TechSmith representative nor did I sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so can't fake it either) but I could see where it may be helpful to describe exactly how you are making your captures.

While I'm not a Mac person, I would assume the Mac and Windows versions of the product would share many similarities. And if that's correct, I know on the Windows side of things, there are multiple ways to initiate captures as well as a setting in SnagIt that governs whether captures open in the editor once finished. So knowing more about the details of your process would likely help someone sort what changed or why it seems to be behaving differently.

Cheers... Rick :)

Hi Tony;

The issue might be that the capture profile settings for Snagit on your Mac are set to "Image Capture" (or Video), which then immediately, after selection, sends the capture to the Editor.

To start, could you please confirm the version of Snagit that you are running? Also, if possible, please single-click on the "S" symbol in the upper right corner of your Mac (by the clock) then use Apple's built in capture utility (CMD+SHIFT+4) to take a capture of the Snagit settings.

Can you please upload that image to this thread?
Thanks!

Hi Tony;

Thanks for the image!

Can you please test clicking on the "All in One" cap tab on the left of that app window? See:

Once it is set, can you please take a test capture to see if that is what you were looking for?
