I just export my audio out of Camtasia as a WAV file, open it in Audacity, apply NR, export as a WAV, them import the WAV into Camtasia and silence original audio
for me, works like a charm

You have to play with the settings, do not let it do everything for you.
It will make you sound like a barrel talker.
In my case, for an example.
Gain = 100%
Sensitivity = 0
Amount = 20
This is what I use, and it seems to do a pretty good job.
If you do not have a lot of background interference, then these settings should be good for you.
Although, you will have to edit them as well.
Just tested it with a little hum from my computers, and it did a darn good job.
It got rid of the hum, compared to the other tracks.
So, right now, there is one segment without a hum, and the rest with a hum. :)
Good Luck
Wayne

For those not from the audio industry, iZotope is a company that specializes in audio 'restoration' and their software is used in television production, hollywood films, etc. They won an emmy in 2013 for the technology: https://www.izotope.com/en/company/press-room/press-releases/2013/engineering-emmy-awarded-to-izotop...
I don't know for certain, but I suspect they (iZotope) wanted a lot more money to renew the license to use the noise reduction technology after 2013. (The izotope file I found in Camtasia 2 mac was ©2012)
iZotope does make it's plugins available separately for users who desire to use the technology with tools that support audio plugins.
Unfortunately, at the present time, Camtasia does not support audio plugins.

I was having issues with Camtasia 9 noise removal, too, until I updated my Camtasia 9 to Camtasia 9.0.3. Do you have the most recent update?
Here's the comparison for the same clip I added noise removal to:
Without noise removal - https://veritas.box.com/s/y053d4qnk7txqmqrj24v07a7whfi0rk6
Noise removal added in Camtasia 9 - https://veritas.box.com/s/mwygu09abjpbv8b9j31jso9ie97t0s1f
Noise removal added in Camtasia 9.0.3 - https://veritas.box.com/s/8a8nrkjyvi9i6klv995yhlvpd6jg8c1b
The noise removal in Camtasia 9.0 was terrible... it actually ADDS noise that sounds like record scratches and crackling.
Thank goodness the update to 9.0.3 fixes this, it sounds much better--on par with the noise removal from the last version of Camtasia 8.
Noise removal added in Camtasia 8.6 - https://veritas.box.com/s/sppv8nmvafgv1s7m8ufkl8ntk2itdxub
Hope this helps streamline your workflow!

my workaround is to export all audio, do NR in Audacity; bring new audio WAV file back in; silence original audio and swap in new Audacity WAV file

Hmm, that doesn't sound good. The clip I was applying noise removal to was actually an MP4 from a video camcorder, rather than a trec recording. I did have a trec recording on track 2, but the audio on that track was muted so it didn't come into play with the noise removal tool. Good to know, thanks kayakman.

The only exception on this is if I am just doing a quick record to show or explain something that is not needing pro audio. This is just my opinions and the way I do things. It would be nice if some audio editing improvements could be made in the TechSmith software but time will tell and for now I am comfortable with the ways I have been doing my audio for many years and after getting used to it the more you do it the easier it makes it in the long run.
Just sharing my input and thanks for sharing to all of you for your input. Have a great day/night.
Cheers ~ Fred.
