Occasionally Print Screen doesn't work

Normally, Snagit sits in the tray when I use PrntScrn button to take a screenshot. However, in some cases (I don't know when and why) I can't take a screenshot that way. I have to first open Snagit following the next steps.
1. Click the window I want to take a screenshot of, in order to make it active (on top of other windows in desktop).
2. Click the Snagit Capture window in tray, to open it in desktop (Now this is the active window).
3. Press PrntScrn button.
4. That makes Snagit Capture window to go to the background, while crosshair appears to let me select a region, a part of the window, or the whole window (that was active in step 1).

Does anyone know why this occur occasionally and how to fix it?

Thanks.

Would it not have started with Windows if it is in the system tray?

OK  I missed that tray business.

Does printscreen work normally otherwise?

If so it sounds as though whatever program you are in is grabbing the PrntScrn  keys.

Next time it happens turn OFF snagit and press the PrntScrn in whatever program you were in and see what happens.  Try a paste to see what was copied, etc.
