Hi TechSmith,a lot of people are using Camtasia because it's the best screen recorder and video editor. I have one question,i know it's stupid but i appreciate if you even consider it. A lot of people are using pirated versions of Camtasia 8,so why not give away for free old versions like 5,6,7.0 ? That offer should be available to people only with their account here on this community. Those versions are out of support and it would be nice to give them away. Thanks in advance :)

I seem to recall that TechSmith actually did that a few years ago. There was a limited amount of time that folks had to obtain an install an older version of Camtasia.

Who knows, maybe they will do it again at some point.

Cheers... Rick :)

Giving your product away  " Any Version " for free is a bit ridiculous in my opinion. Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free.

What's next , Photoshop CS5 for free???? I think not.

Here's an idea: Ford, GM. Toyota, etc should give away their cars that didn't sell last year.

Well, before we throw the baby out with the bath water, there may actually be a bit of genius in giving away older software versions.

By openly making an old version available, as long as it works on the operating system, it will certainly lack the features that make the newer version attractive. So when folks encounter this, they will then realize that maybe something they really want is available and off they go to purchase the newer version.

Just thinking out loud here... Rick :)

Yeah right. What bathwater are we talking about here?
What does having SnagIt 12 and suggesting giving away a better screen recorder for free have to do with knowing better???
Nothing I guess.

Good point Rick. A lot of people like to stretch canvas, and all that kind of stuff is available in v8.Cs 5 and 6 were released in 2008/9 and they lack some of feature that exists in Cs8. Adobe was giving away CS2,not CS5.

No Adobe accidently released access to CS2. They also released a statement saying that you are not allowed to download this software unless you have a valid license for it. Photoshop CS2 is a better photo editor than SnagIt 12. You don't give stuff like that away for free.

Camtasia 5 is a better screen recorder than a lot of other screen recorders.

It would be a profit killer to allow others to have it for free along with the video editor. Most people want a good screen recorder but wouldn't use it much. Give them something adequate for free, they will never be a customer.

IF you ever seek a job with TechSmith, I wouldn't share this thought on your resume.

Regards and realistic speaking, Joe

CS5 as i know doesn't have 720p output (i think),and 6 has great quality and lack of features that are available on 8.

I don't know all the Specifics of all the older versions. But I believe they all record at 30fps and a lot of current screen recorders cannot. SnagIt 12 struggles to capture at 10fps on my machine and I'm running a i7 4770 processor.

Free is great, but TechSmith shooting themselves in the foot by giving away a better screen Recorder than is offered for SnagIt 12????

30 day free trials are the tease to upgrade. Rick should know better. He has SnagIt 12

5 and 6 were released 6 years ago. Most people want screen recording, and callouts, transitions, stretching and other stuff they can get using Camtasia 8.5.
