I am not aware of a shortcut to do that.

I think the only option is to open the drop down menu then do a regular capture

Hi Paul,
That is the problem! When I do what you suggest, the dropdown dissapears the moment I try to select it with the crosshairs.

Well that's weird.  I just tried it on desktop and web apps.  I click on a drop down, press my capture hotkey and the menu stays open.  What versions of Windows and SnagIt are you using?  Maybe there's a combo that doesn't work.  You should probably open a ticket with Support because no-one else has weighed in with a suggestion in 2 days, and they would have done by now.

In the meantime there's a possible workaround.  it ain't pretty but it should work (unless the problem is with Windows).

Expand the menu and then press Windows Key + PrtScn.  This will take a whole screen screenshot.  It will place it in Pictures\Screenshots.  Open that in Snagit, edit it and save it to your preferred screenshot location.

I use snagit 2019 and Windows 10. Both are the latest versions!
Thanks for your workaround tip, I will try that if all else fails.

I am running the same versions.  This may be a graphics driver issue.

I suggest you contact Support:

"We offer free, individual tech support from a team of knowledgeable agents, from 8am-7pm ET (GMT-4) Monday-Friday. Open a ticket at support.techsmith.com or call 517.381.2300."

I opened a help ticket with Snagit and thier reply was 'use the windows screen capture' That confused me even further. Why use Windows, surely Snagit should be able to capture a dropdown menu?  If it is now unable to do so, then I think that the program should be updated!  The MAC version manages to do it!

@Ronnie.  OK, so they suggestion from Support is exactly the same as the workaround I suggested earlier.

But the rest of their response puzzles me.  Did you explain that SnagIt work fine on drop downs for other users on the forum?

Paul, No I didn't mention that but I will if you think it will help.
It is so disappointing that this is not working for me in Windows but works on my  Mac older version.

Take heart from the fact that it is for me.  Ergo it is possible.  If you edit your ticket online, you can add the URL of this thread.  And just to prove the point:
