only want to increase volume of PART of the clip

why cant i make a selection on the timeline, and just do something to the selection (esp. with AUDIO!) i make a selection of a clip on the timeline. i want to increase the volume of ONLYthe selection. BUT, any audio modifications i try apply to the ENTIRE timeline! what am i missing here?

Couple ways to it.

First I suggest you separate the audio from the video but you don't have to.

First way is to split out the section of the video/audio you want to adjust.

Click Images to Enlarge



Then highlight that section and in the properties panel click the audio icon.


 The timeline section should now be green.
Hover your mouse over the green line till you get a double headed arrow than click and drag the volume up or down.

Another way is to make a selection with the playhead (no splitting of the video clip) then click on the audio icon in the properties panel. Hover over the green line till you  get the double headed arrow and click once.




That will add 4 audio points. You can move the playhead out of the way if you want,  then click and drag the green line up or down or adjust each audio point.



Lastly you can add individual audio points onto the timeline.
 
With the audio selected (green) hover at the point you want to add a point
right-click and select "Add Audio Point". Adjust the points as needed.



One of those methods should work for you.
