Onscreen display of keystrokes and mouse clicks...

Anyone have any recent suggestions for what they use to show key presses onscreen while recording? Currently I'm using Carnac for Windows and like it well enough as it captures and displays the mouse buttons and wheel scrolls as well as key presses (and it's open source).

Just curious what others are using and urging Tech Smith to add the functionality - especially the ability to capture the input in the recording file, and then display or NOT display it as desired when you go to produce the video.

Well, Camtasia Recorder does capture keystrokes though not mouse clicks:
https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/360023972151-Record-the-Screen-and-Audio

Camtasia Recorder automatically records:

  • Keyboard shortcut data to generate keystroke callouts in Camtasia Editor
  • Cursor data to customize the cursor in Camtasia Editor
You can add the captured keystrokes via the Menu bar - Modify - Generate Keystroke Callouts.

I believe you may be a bit mistaken about the mouse clicks. Sure, like the keystrokes, they aren't displayed as you record, but there are effects that may be applied that show them.

Cheers... Rick :)
