Outlined font for callouts

Captions use an outlined font, so they are visible on both dark and light backgrounds.

It would be nice to have an (optional) outline for text (in) callouts as well, it would be even better if the outline is configurable (color, width)

Thanks for the request and details, Erik.
What I'm about to suggest is in no means a real solution, but just yesterday I was working on a video where we had experienced this problem.

The workaround we used was to make the text twice and then offset the black text callout under the colored one to give it something of a "pop" effect.

I do have one question though--a typical workflow is to put the text in a rounded rectangle or some other kind of callout with a background. I am curious to learn more about why you don't prefer this method.

I'm going to file this under Camtasia for Mac too--you raise a good point, and thanks for sharing.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for picking this up.

My reason... Well, there are several, not all equally important though:

- I sometimes have the need to "fake" captions, when I want them to appear in a
different than default location because that location is occupied by something
else or the background (the video) is too "busy" for the caption to stand out.

- In other situations, I still want to see what's happening behind the text, which
would be blocked if I'd use a rectangle (or other shape) behind my text.

- I like outlined fonts because of the effects you can achieve with them, e.g.
creating "hollow" text.

I often use various types of callouts as callout-captions so they can be placed appropriately.

You can set the callout's text to be opaque while changing the callout's overall transparancy.

This let's you make the callout-captions look like regular captions.

I too want to be able to make images with captions like this:

The black outline is an important addition to the text and text shadows just don't cut it on many images.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Outline around the text in Camtasia Studio..

Add to the Camtasia Studio outline around the text added in the movie :) .
I really miss this option if Camtasia had it in the new version  i would be very glad . :)

Checking in to agree with the above.  I make a lot of videos for youtube and the option to outline text would go a long way towards making things look more crisp. Hopefully this can be possible soon!

I would love to see outlined fonts added to the list of options as it would be tremendously useful. The fact that it's integral to captions makes one wonder why it is taking so long to apply it to call-outs?

I'm still opening photoshop all the time just to do captions. I got snagit because it's far more convenient, but captions are still a huge pain point for me with snagit for mac.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Outline fonts.

I had not as of yet faced any hurdles I could not leap in Camtasia to get the effects that I wanted in my videos, until now.

I went to outline some font for subtitles that I need and was shocked that I could not do this.

I've been using Camtasia for some time now and I guess I had not needed it or had just used the drop shadow to suffice, but the time has come that I need it.

Looking at the past threads, I see several others have been pining for this feature for 4 years!

I understand that certain features take precedent over others and demand drives all decisions, but it's been 4 years for a feature that is pretty standard for fonts.

And while the use cases may seem to be infrequent, I would wager that many others have just been using work arounds to suffice and would really appreciate the feature once made available to them.

Heck, there are several features on Camtasia that I have never touched, yet they are there if I need them, and the fact that they are there if needed tells your customers that you understand their needs and accommodate them.

Again, up until now, Camtasia has always done what I needed it to do. And I'd like to be able to continue to tell my friends and colleagues that it still does everything I need it to do.

Show some love. It's been 4 years.

Thanks,

Cory

I would love to have outlined fonts in Snag-It.  Chevex's example is what I'm going for.

I agree, outlined text should be standard in a video/presentation software, in some cases it just looks better, so why wouldn't you give your users that choice. Is it hard to build?
