Oval and round call outs have too much padding (spacing) between the call out lines and the text. All other call outs are much more reasonable (even non-square ones), and are more reasonably affected by their shape. An additional concern is that "0 pt" padding should mean that the text will touch (or almost touch) the line somewhere, so the user knows that increasing the points will reasonably move the text away from the call out line. I note that this issue has been brought up before, but I'm posting a new conversation because it's been at least two years since this issue has been raised. I also note that I have discussed this with the technical folks, who suggested I post here to see how much of a problem this is for others - to help gauge whether or not they will 'fix' this in future updates. I hope they note that it takes some time for individual users to figure out a work around (i.e., don't use oval or circular call outs if you don't like lots of space), which could be headed off by fixing the problem (i.e., having less space like other callouts with none square lines) or putting a note to the user right below the "Padding" line. Thanks go to the technical folks who responded very quickly!
