Pause video when hotspot is clicked

Hi All,

I'm using Camtasia Studio 8.  I have a project with several images that I have turned into hotspots so the user can click them in order to go to a different URL (for supplemental material).  Is there a way for me to have the Camtasia Studio 8 video pause when the user clicks the hotspot?  The hotspots takes the user to the new URL just fine, but the video keeps going and I need it to pause until the user comes back to it.  I want the user to come back to the originating video when they are finished reviewing the supplemental material.

configure the hotspot to stop at end, jump to URL, and to open in a new browser window/tab

Hi Kayakman,

Thanks for the information, but I already do that part.  I select "Jump to URL".  The problem is when the new URL opens, the original video keeps running.  My goal is for the video to pause when someone clicks on the hotspot to jump to URL.  Right now, the URL's go to a supplemental video.  When someone clicks the hotspot, the new video opens in the new tab and then you have two videos running at the same time.  So far, the only solution I can seem to find is to tell the participants to pause the video before clicking the hotspot.  Not the best user experience, but at least it's something.

if your hotspot is configured as a stop at end, that video will stop when play reaches the end of that hotspot; then, viewer can click hotspot to start other video in a new window

this works because I do it all the time

please verify that your hotspot os configured correctly?

be sure that you make custom productions and set keyframes at 1 second; make hotspots at lease 2 seconds long

Hi Kayakman,

I understand how the stop at end feature works.  That's not what I'm looking for.  These hotspots last through the entire video so the end user can click on them whenever they want.  I want the video to pause when the user clicks the hotspot.  Not only at the end of the hotspot.

I understand what you want, but it's not possible in CS8 with the SmartPlayer

you have 2 choices ...

split your hotspot into many segments so whenever a viewer clicks it will end shortly thereafter

or ...

use CS 7 to produce your content

CS 7 was the last version that supported the old Classic Controller [as opposed to the current Classic Theme]

when the stop at end, jump-to-URL [in new window] hotspots were clicked in a CS7 production, the launching video would stop, and the new video would play

I made many videos that had hotspots that took advantage of this behavior

but again, the current player does not support that behavior
