The Problem:
I need the video to play in reverse (for education, training, scientific reasons, etc).
Potential Solution:
A video effect in Camtasia which will reverse the direction of a clip

Hello, I would like that the future update gives us the possibility to reverse a video (not just to play it backwards, but to reverse a video when editing it) and I'd also like that when clipping speed, the audio distorting is an option. Thanks in advance! :)

Did the developers finally add a video reverse effect on Camtasia 9? You could only record screen and do it manually but it was very impractical and low quality.

Playing videos or music backwards, it is used a lot. Also any other visual effects that other video editors have? It already has transitions effects.

If after making a mistake during my screen cast I could stop, reverse the video by X seconds and restart from that point it would be a great feature. This would minimize the need to post-processing of the video to cut out mistakes.

Please reference the new conversation here: Add ability to pause, reverse to a specific point, and restart recording

I stumbled across this method only today; there have been numerous threads on this forum regarding the subject of playing a clip in reverse; my intention here is to supplant my previous suggestions with the following technique ...
with the clip you want to play backwards on timeline, use clip speed adjustment to set its duration to something like 1 minute
use ctl-F9 to zoom timeline so entire clip is in view
scale the canvas so it is as large as possible while still allowing the timeline w/playhead to stay in full view
launch Recorder; set capture area to grab the canvas area
send playhead to end of clip
start recording [to .trec], then scrub the playhead slowly and as smoothly as possible from right to left; the clip is displayed in reverse in the canvas
stop capture when left edge of clip is reached
in a new project, load the capture on timeline
use clip speed adjustment to set the clip's duration to desired value
produce as AVI
quick, crude, but mostly acceptable result
perhaps give it a try
much faster than my previous suggested method

I would like a normal solution from the developers of the Camtasia editor, this is a necessity.

I had to use Premiere to reverse a clip that I recorded in Camtasia. I thought we used to be able to reverse clips in Cam 8... please give us this feature!

We were surprised how many votes this one got. While this idea was in the top tier, there are ideas close in voting to this one that are more inline with upcoming themes we’ll be focusing on first. This is still an idea that we’ll keep at the top of consideration when our capacity allows.
Here are the definitions of what the statuses mean for Ideas.
Here is the overall vote count for the rest of the Ideas in this round up.

Why? I can actually accept "Whoops, we didn't think of this when planning features" a lot more than "People want this? Lots of them?".
Think about all the times you want to say "Hey, lets back up a sec", and replay a few seconds backwards at slow speed". Think about all the times we want to dance a cat back-and-forth in place. Etc.

And it still did not go into the "We'll do this" list.
Sigh.
It is a shame that the best way to get a reverse clip is to ... hmm. Export each frame to a numbered png, and assemble them in reverse order? That would work -- there must be a script somewhere to assemble png's into a mkv/mp4, right?

This does a great job and it's free.
What are the different options ?
Video Time Reversal 2 has several options to personalise the reverse process :
You can choose an output file format between the following :
- MJPEG avi (Bigger file but process faster and better quality)
- WMV : window movie video
- MP4 : mpeg 4
- Same as input file (if possible !)
You can choose to return the sound (default), to keep original sound or to remove the sound. You can also have the reversed sound in a separate wav file.
You can choose output bitrate (except for MJPEG output)

Two reactions to the Reverse Clip not being supported:
A. I can't believe it took me this long to NEED a reverse playback feature
B. I can't believe C2019 does not have this feature - Camtasia has pleasantly surprised me by supporting almost all my other video and audio post-production needs
This technique goes way back to the days of film, e.g. famous Star Wars sand people clip of 1977 to name one.
In today's internet/FB/animated emoji video clips, the endless "bounce loop" is really important for finished productions. Please add soon!

Ohh ... Only *now* do I think of trying to whine about it :-)
(Old joke: What wine goes best with unix? Some people feel that Unix has a strong flavor, and so a strong wine like a red works best; others feel that Unix has a very subtle influence on its programs, so you want a white wine. More recently, some people feel that unix is both french-like, and transparent, so instead of wine and cheese, you have wine and windows (Q: is windows cheesy?). And the old punch line: "Waah, it doesn't run my windows games!" whine. Of course, now "wine" really does run a lot of windows programs and games without error, at least if you don't need sound output.)
