If after making a mistake during my screen cast I could stop, reverse the video by X seconds and restart from that point it would be a great feature. This would minimize the need to post-processing of the video to cut out mistakes.

I stumbled across this method only today; there have been numerous threads on this forum regarding the subject of playing a clip in reverse; my intention here is to supplant my previous suggestions with the following technique ...
with the clip you want to play backwards on timeline, use clip speed adjustment to set its duration to something like 1 minute
use ctl-F9 to zoom timeline so entire clip is in view
scale the canvas so it is as large as possible while still allowing the timeline w/playhead to stay in full view
launch Recorder; set capture area to grab the canvas area
send playhead to end of clip
start recording [to .trec], then scrub the playhead slowly and as smoothly as possible from right to left; the clip is displayed in reverse in the canvas
stop capture when left edge of clip is reached
in a new project, load the capture on timeline
use clip speed adjustment to set the clip's duration to desired value
produce as AVI
quick, crude, but mostly acceptable result
perhaps give it a try
much faster than my previous suggested method

lol it is gonna take me a lot of time and effort. May be it is impolite to say, but i think i can use another software to make the vid run backwards, then edit it in camtasia. At least i create a synergy lol)

I use Sony Vegas to reverse video. Having it in Camtasia would eliminate this step.

A short fix to this problem until this update is added is that you can record your canvas playback while holding down or tapping the rewind key, you can then adjust the clip speed to fit the timing you need. I use this method but adding a "reverse" option would benefit greatly.
This method does not work for me, because when you playback manually in camtasia 9, my video is freezed for some reason. Anyway recording is not a convenient solution.

I have been posting this for years. TechSmith should buy the code from this guy and incorporate it into Camtasia.

A. I can't believe it took me this long to NEED a reverse playback feature
B. I can't believe C2019 does not have this feature - Camtasia has pleasantly surprised me by supporting almost all my other video and audio post-production needs

Wow, just found out about Xander's Video Time Reversal. I too stare dumbfounded at Camtasia's interface with its lack of clip reversal. C'mon man!
