Playhead no longer plays outside a highlighted section

I noticed in a recent update that I can't get the playhead to play outside a highlighted range.

I have a practice where, for example, I highlight a section that I know is going to be deleted, then I move the playhead 30 seconds before the section and listen. Then I play a few seconds after the section.

That helps me figure out of the video will make sense without the highlighted section.

Now, all of a sudden, when I have a highlighted section and the playhead outside, the playhead jumps straight to the start of the highlighted section. NO! I don't want that.

I also use this technique, for example:
I need to take the section from 17:00 - 17:45 and move it to 3:00.

Being able to use the highlight and the playhead independently helps me find the right points, and determine if the splice will be smooth

Well, it seem like the only option right now is to install an older version.

I just tested Version 2018.0.4 on my machine. It does as you describe. So you would have to install an older version.

Then I would report it to Tech Support.

You won't find older versions of 2018 on TechSmiths website. They quit providing them for some reason. As long as you didn't delete them. With every install and update. The installation file version .exe's were saved to your windows Downloads folder.

There all named Camtasia .exe. So you'll have to check their properties to find out what version is what. 2018.0.4 was released September 12. SO your probably looking for 2018.0.3

Thanks, Joe!
I'm gonna report this to Techsmith. I don't know what I'd open myself up to by going back in versions.

You can download older versions at:
 https://www.techsmith.com/download/oldversions

For some reason, I had to click in the version box three times in order to get the list. I guess that's another website bug to go along with the bugs in this forum post editor.

Yeah, but they only offer the most recent version of Camtasia 2018, there are no previous/older versions available.

Why would you want an earlier version of 2018? They were a buggy mess, which is why they've already had multiple maintenance releases.

To get back the functionality hes missing.  In other words, he had no issues with probably version 2018.0.3?

Hes running the latest version of Camtasia. Your the one that posted he could download an older version by clicking the link.
I was pointing out the fact that you cannot.
Most of Camtasia 9's versions are unavailable as well.

As TechSmith changes features, some people prefer older versions. Since Camtasia 9, they rarely offer many versions. It's a policy change everyone should be aware of.

Because saying download older versions here, dosen't hold much water these days.

They do the same thing with SnagIt. If TechSmith takes away, they revert back.
