Please add Camtasia 8 import to Camtasia 2020!

Unfortunately, Camtasia 2020 cannot open Camtasia 8 projects.  No backwards compatibility.  I had my credit card out, but back it goes.

One could download the Camtasia 2019 trial, and use that to convert Camtasia 8 files to the newer format.  But I would have to convert every single project, whether I need it now or not, before the 2019 trial expires.

Quite the showstopper.  I sure hope Camtasia 2020 adds import for Camtasia 8 projects sometime soon!  Please consider?

Well, it's worse than that.  I tried converting Camtasia 8 files to 2020, by going through 2019.  Did not work.

2019 does convert ok from Camtasia 8.  The project works in 2019.

But then when opening that in 2020, it converts / upgrades again.  And that project is a disaster.  All my callouts, rectangles and rounded rectangles with text in them, are blown up.  Wrong size, text in unreadable font, and many of the rectangles converted to weird arrows.

I have built up years, years of work in Camtasia.  It would take me, literally and without exaggeration, at least a year to redo it all.  I do not think that is even practical.

Unless 2020 provides an upgrade path from Camtasia 8, or even 2019, that is stable, my commitment and support and promotion of Camtasia and all my work created for many, many years, will all be lost.

I am in a very, very, very bad place indeed.

Can tech support provide me any hope at all?

per the release notes, 2020 no longer supports many older-style callouts; this has affected me too; I have several thousand zipped legacy projects, and many Library assets, that make use of those older callouts; best way forward is to keep 2019 installed and use it to further edit those projects

If you have any legal copy of Camtasia you should be able to use your current key to activate any previous version. It is a long process to update a file to each next version from the saved project you have but I don't know a better way. I do not know if it will even work in your case but it may be worth a try.

You can download and install your current version or an older version from this link.

I hope it works for you.

This is a huge deal. Any response from Techsmith? I have 3 versions of Camtasia currently installed, but it is laborious to upgrade older projects to 2020.

I bought the upgrade, and am using Camtasia 2019.  The project update from Camtasia 8 to Camtasia 2019 works quite well.  Just one problem with audio levels after splitting I had to fix, quite esoteric, unlikely many others would ever run into it.  The 2019 software is pretty good.  Much, much more stable than Camtasia 8.  Not a single crash after several weeks.

The issue though is that I am stuck now with 2019, since 2020 does not support older style callouts, and those are a huge part of all my projects.  If Techsmith can ever bring themselves to support these in an update to 2020, it would let me move forward with the software into the future.  Backwards compatibility is so important, I hope they put this on their road map for 2020.
